Hi Lisa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I didn’t initially set out to become a matchmaker. Before this chapter of my life, I owned a helicopter firefighting business and spent five months a year on the road with my family, moving from fire to fire. It was intense, meaningful work — and who knew matchmaking could be just as exciting? Instead of putting out fires, I’m helping to spark them. 🤭 And I’ll admit, it’s nice to have a career where I don’t have to live in an RV half the year.
After I sold my business, my best friend started a matchmaking company, and I jumped in to help her build it. For three years, I worked alongside her, learning the industry, supporting clients, and realizing how much I genuinely loved helping people with something as personal as their love life. She was actually the one who encouraged me to go out on my own, and that little nudge changed everything.
When I launched my own company in 2012, everything just clicked. What began in Santa Barbara has grown beyond anything I imagined. I’ve worked with CEOs, entrepreneurs, creatives, single parents — truly the whole spectrum. Different backgrounds, different stories, but the same struggle: finding someone who was actually a match. Supporting people through that process has been incredibly rewarding.
A big part of why I expanded into San Diego is that my family is here. My kids and grandbabies live in town, and I wanted to be close for all the everyday moments — the hugs, the chaos, and the “GiGi, can you come over?” texts that always seem to arrive right when I think I have a free minute. Being nearby keeps me connected to the people who bring me the most joy, and that matters deeply to me.
What I love about San Diego is that it’s a place where people don’t just want connection — they value it. There’s an uplifting mix of warmth, ambition, and authenticity here that makes it a beautiful setting for the work I do. Growing my business in this community feels like the perfect blend of purpose and heart: helping incredible people find love while staying rooted near the family I cherish.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. When I first started my business, my marriage had just ended, and financially, I was at the lowest point of my life. The only reason I was able to begin at all was that dear friends took me into their home in Santa Barbara while I got back on my feet. I had almost no money to invest — just a big drive to rebuild my life and a backup plan to return to accounting if everything fell apart. I was determined not to let that happen.
Those early years taught me some of my biggest lessons. When you’re struggling financially, it’s tempting to take on clients who aren’t the right fit simply because you need the income. I learned the hard way that it’s far better to cut every possible expense than to say yes to the wrong client. It never pays off, and it takes a toll on you emotionally and professionally.
But every setback made me stronger — more grounded, more intentional, and much clearer about the kind of business I wanted to build. What didn’t break me truly did strengthen me, and I’m grateful for those hard chapters. They shaped the way I work, the boundaries I set, and the level of integrity I bring to my clients today.

Amador Matchmaking is a boutique, high-touch matchmaking and date-coaching firm built on the belief that love is not luck, it is alignment. I work with successful, thoughtful people who are tired of swiping and ready for a smarter, more personalized approach to finding a partner.
I am known for blending intuition, practicality, and a grounded understanding of human behavior. As a Certified Matchmaker and Science-Based Date Coach, I don’t just introduce people, I help them date with intention so the right relationship can actually take shape.
What sets my business apart is the curated, personal process. My clients do not get random matches. They receive thoughtful, values-based introductions tailored to them. My team and I are with them every step of the way, preparing, coaching, refining, and occasionally offering the kind of gentle honesty only a matchmaker can get away with.
I also host some truly unforgettable parties. People come for the fun and somehow leave with a love interest. It happens more often than you would think.
Brand-wise, I am most proud of the reputation we have built for warmth, integrity, and long-term results. I am not here to send people on endless dates. I am here to change the way they date so they can create the relationship they have been wanting.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about San Diego is how much there is to enjoy. I am a foodie, so the restaurant scene is a dream. I also love live music, and there are so many great venues to choose from. The beaches are incredible and perfect for long walks, and the people here are friendly, down-to-earth, and just easy to connect with. Honestly, everywhere I go, I catch myself thinking, “This would be the perfect spot for a date.”
What I like least? The traffic. Enough said.
