Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynda Toovey.
Hi Lynda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always loved the beauty industry and have always felt I was meant for more than working at my corporate 9 to 5 job. In 2011 at age 38, I took a leap of faith and decided to enroll in school to became a licensed esthetician. I was hesitant and unsure if starting a new career at this point in my life was a good idea. I was the oldest in my class but after my first day, I knew this is where I was supposed to be. I learned so much about skincare and for the first time, I truly felt passionate about something. From there, everything felt right. I was determined to succeed in this industry. Soon after I graduated, I worked at Bellus Academy as a Client Coordinator then a Teacher Assistant then an Esthetics Instructor. It was then I gained the confidence to open my own spa. In 2013, I started my business in a small 500 square foot space working for myself. Over eight years, I upgraded twice to larger locations and proudly employed six employees while also working as an educator.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To be quite honest, the first few years were full of trial and error learning how to succeed in this industry. However, after working hard and dedicating myself to my business, I saw my hard work pay off. I have an amazing, solid team of staff and I feel very grateful and blessed to have made it this far. Especially overcoming all the struggles that came with Covid-19. With the help of loyal clients and dedicated employees, we were able to overcome the hardest obstacle yet. We continue to grow every year and are ready to face any challenge that comes our way!
We’ve been impressed with Spa Piel, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are located in the heart of La Mesa Village in San Diego county. We are a Certified Organic Green Spa and an authorized retailer of Eminence Organic Skin Care. We proudly use those products in our facial services along with specializing in HydraFacial, Eyelash Extensions, Massage Therapy, Microblading and much more.
How do you think about luck?
I feel as though everything happens for a reason and I have luckily been blessed with amazing staff that have each helped my business grow in ways I could have not done on my own.
