Today we’d like to introduce you to Marielle Schultz.
Hi Marielle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in southern Minnesota before enlisting in the Marine Corps in high school. Served 8 years Active duty Marines before pursing school and graduating Palmer College of Chiropractic West with a Doctorate of Chiropractic degree. Started my own Chiropractic clinic in San Diego in 2024.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not haha. Transitioning from the military was a hard enough challenge on top of going to school which was pretty unfamiliar to me . Completely changing career paths from being a radio operator to studying STEM courses. School was its own obstacle, teaching myself how to ” do school” was trial and error, I didn’t have a good foundation of how to study for tests because everything up until this point was all hands on for the most part. After school I opened my business and I have never been a doctor before and I have never been a business owner before so navigating those two at the same time can be quite challenging.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
In my practice I specialize on building relationships. That’s what makes me successful and gives my patients the best results. I have a large variety of certifications that have helped me create the best treatment options for my patients, but what I do best is I listen and observe. I treat a variety of people and complex cases and even people who ” don’t like chiropractors” or have had bad chiropractic experiences. Building a relationship with the patient is the best things I do, creating trust, validating, and giving exercise prescription that the patient can do while still pushing them to do more than they ever thought they could. I don’t treat or coach based on programs, but I coach/ treat the patient.
I treat veterans for free via the VA community care network.
I treat pregnant women and do post-natal rehab
post surgical rehab
athletes, sports performance
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I took a major risk getting out of the Marine Corps and doing a 180 career change. I could have gotten out and still stayed within that profession in the civilian world and took a job doing what I was doing with a job offer. I chose to pursue a passion and to build a different lifestyle. I chose to start my own business out of grad school where I had no experience in the profession and little to no personal life in the area to support me. I don’t always consider it being a risky because everyday, every choice is a risk. You can either choose to stay where you are, or you can choose to change. They are both a risk of choices, you just need to pick whats worth risking; your old life, or the possibility of a new life.
