Hidden Gems: Meet Maura Rosa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maura Rosa

Hi Maura, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started in Tijuana as a sensitive and superstitious kid. Counting the blocks that I walked, avoiding cracks and obsessing over minor details. That obsession over minor details turned me to the arts. Producing and recording music helps me channel all the components in my brain that seek perfection that doesn’t exist.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The struggles are here still. They are within me. Self sabotage for me is sometimes a product of perfectionism. It turns into depression, into anxiety. The battle to survive the mind is here every day. And every day I choose the path I want, even if it takes infinite effort. I am slowly learning that true peace and happiness cannot be found in success or work. I seek to find it in my heart, in my soul. In the places that can never be taken away from me.

We’ve been impressed with Maura Roaa, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I produce. I record. Which means that I can capture music that musicians compose, and I can also help bring their idea more life. I accomplish that with paying close attention to the idea that they have in mind and finding the small spaces in the song that need another arrangement, instrument, effect, etc. I am known for building a story inside the melody. Away from the expected structure; I fly. To where the notes escape when they are not being held down by conventions. The goal is for the final piece to be auditory but also visual. For I believe that every note is a drop of paint in the listeners canvas.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Aaron Ruiz has been and is a huge part of the project and of my development as a composer, audio engineer and creative. He always pushes me and expects nothing but the best. I owe him so much, and the only way I can pay him back is with more music. He is a mentor to me in so many ways. The songs that I record and capture are done in his studio. Memory Lounge Studios in San Ysidro.
