Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan May
Hi Megan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As long as I can remember, I’ve always loved being creative whether that be painting, drawing, sculpting, doing things in nature or capturing the world around me. when I was 13 years old, I got my first GoPro and decided I was going to make travel videos for my family and friends to keep hold of memories. I quickly realized I loved the process of capturing moments and editing them to be the most authentic version. I went to school at the University of Colorado Boulder and studied media production there. after college, I worked under a videographer, and after sometime fell out of love with my craft. I took some time away and worked in retail and just really looked in words and tried to discover what I wanted to. That’s kind of when everything changed and I wanted to start my own business as a wedding videographer/photographer. I love, capturing someone special day as well as adding my own little flare and creativity to it!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
my process into becoming a wedding videographer has not always been an easy road. when I first got out of college, I had all this excited energy and i was hit with a reality of it is very difficult to find a job at this age and time in the world. I worked under someone and realized that I might be in the wrong field. I was feeling quite uninspired and felt like My talents weren’t being used to my full ability. I decided to take two years off and walk away from something I loved, and I quickly realized that I wanted to do it my own way. it was definitely a challenge learning to build your own business from the ground up, but I wouldn’t have done it any other way!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Megan May Films ?
I would say my business is a bit different from the rest because I truly focus on the real connection and the raw moments of your special day. I don’t want anything to feel staged or unnatural. I use a combination of digital footage as well as super 8 footage to give it that nostalgic vintage feel. I also love to include drone footage to get the entire perspective of the venue! I pride myself on being very transparent, and the fact that you spend a lot of time with your videographer and photographer and so I feel that it is very important to vibe and gel with our personalities. This is your day and i want to take away any and all stress possible.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
San Diego is such a beautiful city to live in. There are so many things to do here such as the beach go up to dinner bars, etc.. I could not think of a better place to live in. The only downside to San Diego is that it’s just a huge city and there’s just so many people everywhere!
