Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello my name is Melissa Benin I am a solo esthetician. The name of my company is Extraordinary Beauty. EB was born out of pure passion for skincare. since I was young teen I Always gravitated towards the beauty of skincare. I remember when I was 13 I went to Sephora and skincare wasn’t as popular as it is now the skincare section was all the way in the back and I would go inside and just read ingredients, I was so intrigued by it all. That moment I knew how much I loved and belonged in the industry. I always doubted myself and was scared of what people would think. My up bringing wasn’t easy and my parents had very little. I was the oldest of 5 siblings and my dreams were placed on pause. I knew I wanted to share my true passion with the world and I got a job at a department store hoping I could make my way. Life kept getting in the way and wasn’t able to pursue my true passion. My journey began 3 years ago when I was finally able to follow my dreams of being in the esthetics industry. My journey started out of my home, I was taking clients from my living room, to then my bedroom to then being able to keep that dream alive and open up my own business location. Working as a waitress and going to beauty school was part of the journey Throughout this path I faced several and many challenges along the way. Life kept throwing hurdles and I kept perusing my dreams. I now have my own location where I run and operate as a solo esthetician. Sharing my true passion with the world and making my clients feel extraordinary is something I strive for every single day.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I have faced many struggles throughout this journey and hope my story can Inspire others who also doubted they’re selfs it’s not easy to open up your own business and you can easily feel like giving up at times. But I try to look at the bigger picture and stay as grounded and as positive as I can. Some of those struggles are dealing with my mom she has stage 4 cancer and going to school while she’s fighting for her life. The other struggles would be being a waitress and working two jobs just to make ends meet. Some of the struggles are the challenges life throws at you everyday but I was able to overcome and so grateful I am able to be where I’m at today because I didn’t give up!
We’ve been impressed with Extraordinary Beauty, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Extraordinary beauty has been born from a root of desire to help and heal skin and make others feel beautiful. Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I was in foster care. I had a really tough upbringing and I never gave up. People might look at me and think wow she’s has it going on or wow she had it easy or wow how did she get there. But hard work, dedication and never giving up!
