Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Melfa.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a 3rd generation painter. I started going to work with my dad when I was 11 years old. I am 34 years old now. I have two uncles that are painting contractor, and my father was too. I was a carpenter and an EMT for a little bit after community college, but then started doing side jobs on my time off and loved being my own boss and working with my hands. I got my contractor’s license in 2019 (c33). I love working with people and contractors to create people’s dreams homes. It’s been a long hard road with ups and down but am all the better now and the experience serves me really well. I’ve developed a good system to get the optimal paint job in a quick and smooth process.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been ups and down. Learning to bid work and keep the customers happy, but we pride ourselves on putting the customer first and having our work speak for itself. It’s pretty smooth sailing now, but having a good support system and mentors has been all the difference.

Michael James Painting Co. goes above and beyond for our clients and pays attention to the details. We specialize in interior and exterior painting, residential and commercial. We walk you through the entire process, so there’s no doubt or unanswered questions. I am most proud of our referrals and customer relationships. I’d say our clean and timely work sets use apart from a lot of other pairing companies.
