Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Cantleberry.
Hi Natasha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I founded OhDaisey back in 2020 during the lockdown months of Covid…Like many other companies!
But first, I’m taking you back to the 90s when I was born. I grew up in sunny San Diego (shout out to Escondido) to parents that tried their best to feed me what healthy food looked like in the 90’s. Which meant Danimals, nutrigrain bars, tiger bars, things like that. But to be honest, I loved my fruits and veggies and begged my mom to pack them in my lunches. That being said, I have always been pretty health conscious and grew up with a healthy respect for nutritious food and how it could positively impact my body.
Fast forward 18 years. College led me to think more outside the food atmosphere and more into what I was putting on my skin, not just in my stomach… so I began to start reading ingredient labels for makeup and shampoo and conditioner, etc.
I ended up graduating with a degree in Business and knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur but didn’t know exactly what that was going to be like or where that was going to take me. I just knew I loved the idea of innovation.
After many bumps and hills post college, Covid lead to mandatory lockdowns and while we were locked in, I was curious about where I would go get my hair done after everything started to re-open. I googled and yelped for organic salons because at this point since college, I switched over from purchasing the cheapest drug store makeup I could find to checking the ingredients of what I put in and on my skin. I couldn’t find the search results that I was looking for. A salon that was with the times, cute and trendy, and knew the harmful effects of toxicities in hair dye and their solutions.
I finally find a place called Green + Anchor in San Diego that hit all my marks of what I wanted. I came to realize there was a need for a database that focused directly on non-toxic/ low-toxic salons. Not just hair salons but nail and skincare too.
Hence Oh Daisey was birthed! I got started on creating a website, scoured the internet for the perfect name and came across Oh Daisey which just kind of stuck.
Daisy flowers symbolize purity, innocence and new beginning which seemed like the perfect name for the situation we were growing through. But I also had a dog named Daisy growing up that was energetic and this golden brown color. She was so fast! She would escape our yard all the time because she liked us chasing her, so her name reminds me of having to pull my hair into a ponytail and run around the neighborhood until she came home. So at ohDaisey, we define ourselves as chasing after new beginnings.
We are focused on connecting low-toxic salons to like-minded humans. Meaning we want you to learn about the effects toxicities have on your body and how you can be an advocate for yourself.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If any Entrepreneur says that it has been a smooth road, they’re most likely lying! 😉
In short, no it has not been a smooth road, and I don’t think it ever will. The challenges that come along with the business help me grow into a better person and are a teaching moment that give me the momentum to keep going forward towards my goals.
The bumps even caused me to pause the business for a full year because there was a time that it felt overwhelming and I wasn’t sure in which direction I wanted to go. But what differentiates entrepreneurs from succeeding and failing is the mindset. My passion for clean beauty is so vast that it’s second nature to be able to talk to someone about it. I knew I had to keep going with Oh Daisey, reset my mindset and jump over the hurdles!
We’ve been impressed with Oh Daisey, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are Oh Daisey and we focus on connecting low-toxic salons to like-minded humans. We are the only website in the world that offers you a database that promotes salons and spas who specialize in low-toxic & clean chemistry products are environmentally conscious and have a holistic approach to beauty.
Our services encourage a non-toxic lifestyle and rally for a cleaner and brighter future. We believe our marketing and advertising strategies will help salons and spas gain like-minded clients. Let’s GROW together!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
When I was eight years old, my sister and I would play this game called “Punch, punch” which was whenever you would see a VW Beetle on the road you would punch the other person in the arm (lightly of course). This game became a thing we would play even with my aunt. Well one day, my Aunt and her boyfriend at the time purchased a scratcher lotto ticket for the Big Spin which was a lottery show back in the day. She ended up being able to go on the game show and play her way to the top which meant you get to spin this wheel with a bouncy ball and where ever the ball landed that’s how much money you would win.
A few days before the show, she promised my sister and I that she would buy us a VW Beetle if she hit the jackpot. Well, low and behold she ended up winning a million dollars that day!
Fast forward a few months, and while we were having a family and friend get together to watch the show live on television, there was a box of Sees Candy ( a family favorite) with this funky looking device in the box. We were told to take said device outside. While looking at the device, there was a message written on this key chain that said “Love Aunt Denise, Punch, Punch”.
WHAT THE!? It was a key to our brand new 2000 VW Beetle! So that my friends, is how I had my first car at age eight. Since my sister and I were way too young to drive at this time, our dad ended up driving a green VW Beetle to work every day and I finally got to drive it when I was old enough – eight years later.
