Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Estes.
Hi Natasha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After graduating from my high school in a small town in central California, I no longer participated in competitive sports and wanted to do something that would keep me “in shape.” I joined our local gym and began taking a group class with my mom and I absolutely loved it. I loved the way I felt, looked and that I bonded with my mom on a new level. I was in college full-time, working as a server. For three months straight, I vigorously saved up as much money as possible so I could move. At the end of that summer, I moved to San Diego. It was a very scary, sad, but liberating time for me. It was hard to leave my family and friends, but thus far, it was the best decision I have made in my life. I joined a commercial gym in Poway, California, and started training with a personal trainer to stay healthy and fit. Long story short, my trainer happened to be one of San Diego’s best trainers who is now my fiancé of almost three years. After a little over one year of going to community college and working as a server here, I still felt unsure of my purpose in life. All I knew was that I enjoyed exercising and eating well. I ended up becoming a Licensed Esthetician and worked in a Spa at a Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe.
Still, I was always thinking about training, so I finally decided to go through NASM and get certified as a personal trainer. It was the second-best decision that I have made since moving to San Diego. I had finally realized that I had found my purpose in life. I wanted to help others and what better way than through the health and fitness industry. I loved it and I wanted to teach others how to reap all the benefits. I had the honor to gain a lot of experience through training with and around many great coaches in my area. I still needed my own hands-on experience with my own clientele, so I started working as a personal trainer at the same commercial gym I joined when I moved here. I worked there for about one year and then an amazing opportunity arose at a private training facility nearby. Since then, I have started my own small personal training business and I am excited as it continues to grow.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A couple of years ago, I realized that I was the only thing standing in my own way. There is a great book that helped me solidify the real reasons behind the “obstacles” in my life. Overall, I lacked a positive self-image and it was setting me back from many opportunities. I was afraid to fail, so I wouldn’t even try. My fears and insecurities were piling up on me and one of my mentors had recommended this self-help book called “Psycho-Cybernetics” by Maxwell Maltz. It gave me a whole different perspective and motivation of how to be successful in all aspects of your life; self-image, relationships, health, career, and anything else I wanted to achieve. Now, I have a positive self-image, developed positive, healthy habits and skills to educate others on how to reach any goals with a positive mindset.

I’ve had great mentors and have tried to take all opportunities to build my personal training business. My number one supporter and mentor is Carl Koch, my fiancé, who is a Strength and Conditioning coach. He was and is always there to motivate and support me through many of my experiences. He gave me the tough love that I needed to pursue a career that has made me happy, given me confidence and helped me achieve my goals. He inspired me through his own actions; his positivity, leadership, drive, hard-work, determination, dedication, and most importantly, his passion. Nghia Pham, who owns Optimum Training and Performance (a private training facility in San Diego), has been a positive leader who has given me the opportunity to train my clients and grow my business. He provides a great, positive environment for all the coaches and clients. My other great supporters are my mom and my hard-working, dedicated clients.
