Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah Abrahim.
Hi Rebekah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I was a full-time massage therapist for 9 years before getting pregnant. Then, I became a weekday stay-at-home mom, practicing massage on the weekends while my husband stayed with our son. During the weekdays I took parenting very seriously. I was responsible for molding the mind of a human being. I had to teach my son language; so I spoke to him continuously throughout the day. I took active steps to socialize him because he was an only child. I fed him fresh pureed food from scratch. The works. At the end of each and every day I had given my all and was truly exhausted. After my son was able to sleep through the night, I would think to myself “now what?” I don’t want to sit and veg in front of Netflix. I want to live life and be pampered. What I really wanted was a professional massage. Alas, everything was closed. Now that my son is older, I’ve decided to start a business that caters to people in similar situations. I wanted to offer a full-service mobile massage to people who need self-care outside of normal business hours. My business doesn’t just bring a massage table to your home. Spacienda provides an entire spa experience to the well-deserved hard workers of San Diego.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Believing in myself was the hardest obstacle. Originally, the plan was to work full-time again once my son was in kindergarten. That was less than a year away. Instead, I decided to work for myself. Super Scary. Honestly, if my husband wasn’t so supportive or objected at all, I probably wouldn’t have done it. Oh yeah, social media marketing has been challenging as well. At 42 years old I thought I’d be able to completely avoid it. NOPE. Social media turned out to be a huge part of my marketing efforts. At least I haven’t had to do a TikTok dance yet. So, there’s that.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Spacienda, LLC?
What you should know is that Spacienda is a unique mobile massage experience. We are open until midnight because that’s when working professionals are available. We offer aromatherapy, hot stone, cupping, body scrubs, hot towels, table warmer – the whole nine yards. We offer therapeutic massage specializing in relieving chronic pain such as sciatica, frozen shoulder, and carpal tunnel. We also focus on relaxation and calming of the mind.
I have been massaging for 13 years. The typical massage therapist’s career lasts just 7 years. An ordinary massage is probably going to be performed by someone with only 1-7 years of experience. Receiving a massage from someone with over 8 years of experience is a distinguishable improvement. It’s this level of experience that allows Spacienda to provide excellent quality without sacrificing convenience.
We service areas east of La Mesa and South of Encinitas.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I naturally surround myself with people who are better than me – people I can learn from. When my dream was in its infancy, many of these people knew someone who could help me somehow. It still is happening. I do something business-related daily. I believe that this has continued to attract the right people that can bring something positive to my business. Even giving a business card to someone leads to a helpful conversation. Never stop putting yourself out there.
