Hidden Gems: Meet Rossina Garcia of Borealis Jewelry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rossina Garcia.

Hi Rossina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
This business was started in 2001 by my mother when she decided to venture into entrepreneurship. At the time, I was off to college and did not join as a business partner until years later in 2019. Now, as partners, we are working together to grow the business even more and adapt to the modern changes in the retail space, integrating both of our skill sets from young and older generations.

We continue to be excited to serve our community with high-quality merchandise and great service!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. I think that any business has its ups and downs for sure! The biggest challenge we saw was how the Covid Pandemic affected our sales, and more recently the new Tariffs and immigration practices enforced by the new presidency in 2025.

We needed to adapt, reach out to customers, and thankfully we are blessed with loyal customers who have helped us stay in business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Borealis Jewelry is a retail jewelry store that caters to the community in North County San Diego. We offer classic sterling silver and 14k gold jewelry, as well as many unique pieces especially brought in for the Hispanic community, from which most of our customers come from.

Since our target demographic is the Hispanic community, we carry lots of religious and cultural items for those special occasions like baptisms, first communions, and confirmations. We also do repairs and custom engraving.

Our goal is to offer high-quality products for special occasions and excellent customer service.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My mother deserves all the credit! She started this business in 2001 and has maintained its success over the years.

We also have other family members that have offered support when needed, especially in the beginning. Every little bit counts and we’re grateful for everyone’s support!

Now, as partners, she is teaching me how to run the business and we are working as a team to help it grow.
