Today we’d like to introduce you to Talin and Tina Johnas.
Hi Talin and Tina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our story begins in a suburb of Los Angeles as identical twin sisters playing with dollhouses and visualizing beautiful spaces at a very young age. Our love for interior design was cultivated early on through play and we continued to be enamored with it through the years. You can say we were always very sensitive to our environment and fascinated by the transformation of spaces, both big and small.
Fast forward to college where we both studied and graduated with degrees in Interior Design from Cal State University, Northridge. We each worked in several areas of the interior design industry, including hospitality firms and trade showrooms in Los Angeles before taking the big leap to start our own design studio in 2016. We started small by taking on projects for friends and family to build our portfolio before finding a niche in “little rooms” or nursery design. We absolutely loved the challenge of creating timeless and unique spaces that would give little one’s room to grow.
Our client rooster grew through referrals and quickly our projects transitioned from one room makeovers into full remodels, furnishings, and new builds. No two projects were alike and we still can’t believe the incredible clients we were lucky enough to work with.
After living in Los Angeles our entire lives, we began searching for a fresh start and a move to a new city that would still keep us close to family. San Diego was always our top choice for its laid-back feel, vibrant design scene, and beautiful beaches.
The stars aligned in 2018 when, coincidentally, we met our future husbands at the exact same time on the night of a friend’s wedding in San Diego. Skip to 2020 when love officially brought us down to San Diego, where we continue to be inspired by this beautiful city as we take on more projects up and down the California Coast.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We are designers and dreamers first. It has taken us some time to learn to keep our feet on the ground to change roles between designing a space and designing a business. From bookkeeping and accounting to marketing, we have worn many hats, which has strengthened our understanding of everything it takes to run a successful business. We are both right-brained, very much imaginative and visual thinkers, so we excel at the creative side of the business. Navigating all the administrative and not-so-sexy paperwork behind every design has been one of the biggest challenges, but we know that an organized and smooth process is essential for client success. Our passion and love for the design world is what drives us to always keep learning and growing.
Uprooting our established business from LA to San Diego was scary at first, add in a global pandemic to sweeten the challenge, but it was the best decision we made as we continued to grow Tally & Wolf Design Studio. We are extremely lucky to have each other to lean on and to help balance each other’s strengths and weaknesses. They say smooth roads don’t make good drivers. We wouldn’t change a thing!

Tally & Wolf is an interior design studio focusing on remodels and new construction in Southern California and beyond.

We strive to meet our client’s design wants and needs to create a cohesive look while paying special attention to every detail. We specialize in space planning, picking out hard materials and finishes, sourcing furniture, fixtures, and styling.
At Tally and Wolf, we invest countless hours and effort in researching, creating, and presenting a combination of images, samples, and drawings to show how a space will look, but most importantly how it will feel. We guide our clients in the right direction in any and all design decisions so they are saving time and spending their money efficiently. In the end, we want our client’s home to be a reflection of their style and personal taste. Building or remodeling your home can be overwhelming and we are here to alleviate as much of that stress as we can. We are the happiest when partnering with our clients to achieve their dream homes.
