Hidden Gems: Meet Ty Rasmussen of High Plains LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ty Rasmussen.

Ty Rasmussen

Hi Ty, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story starts out in a small town in northern Colorado called Timnath. The area is considered the Front Range- right where the high plains of the midwest meet the Rocky Mountains. Just outside of Fort Collins, Timnath was a quiet, one-stop-sign town with a railroad track running right through the middle. Elementary school was stood next to the original schoolhouse that was utilized by the farming community who founded the area back in the mid-19th century.

Farming and agriculture is just a way of life in the area. Some of my favorite days growing up were spent in the hay fields that I worked with my best friends. Bucking hay in the summer was considered an extra conditioning workout for us as we all played both baseball and football for the high school in town. We grew up learning about God, loving the country that provided us so much, and loving our family and friends more than anything. It was an amazing youth.

After high school, I attended Colorado State University for a few years and then ultimately joined the enlisted ranks in the United States Navy in 2012. Military service was something I never had thought about. I had no one in my immediate family who had served, so it wasn’t on my radar as a career path. Looking back, my military service was the best decision I ever made for myself.

The Navy brought me to San Diego in 2013 aboard the USS Ronald Reagan as an avionics technician. I served 4 years aboard the Reagan and received an honorable discharge in 2016. Being in the aviation community in the military bred a passion for aviation. I started flight school immediately following my military service at San Diego Christian College. After receiving all my ratings I began to fly locally and internationally for a company here in San Diego. That company provided me a family of individuals that I will cherish for life. Customs and Border Protection reached out to me for my flight experience in the San Diego airspace. Currently, I work as a full-time federal agent and fixed wing pilot for them; another opportunity to serve the country I love so much.

High Plains Limited was born out of the patriotism that is in my blood, and the renewed patriotism of so many people in my community and around the country. The western style that I design into my hats reflects the boldness and rugged authenticity that makes this country great. With this company I hope to bring to light both military and first responder service, as I have served in both capacities myself. The individuals who serve in these roles give so much and deserve the recognition of those around them.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge with High Plains Limited is the fact that I have no business background or experience! I attended college for Sports Medicine at Colorado State University and for Aviaiton at San Diego Christian College. I don’t have a single credit towards a business degree. I am learning the ins-and-outs of running a business on the fly!

I launched the business in January of 2025. As I’m writing this piece, the store exists solely online. Website design and marketing have been the biggest challenges. Simply getting the name High Plains Limited out to my target audience is tough. The support I hope to bring to the veteran and first responder community with the company is the reason I persist through these challenges.

We’ve been impressed with High Plains LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
High Plains Limited exists to bring support to the veteran and first responders community of this great nation. With that said, we donate 15% of each sale to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation and to The First Responders Foundation equally. In order to provide that financial support we target those who value the same 3 things that we at High Plains value more than anything- God, Country, and Family. We believe having a strong foundation in those three pillars in life are essential.

I have geared the company towards a country-western style due to my upbringing on the High Plains of Colorado. This Western spirit is what sets my company apart from most other companies here on the West Coast and in San Diego. This city has such a huge military presence that has brought individuals from all walks of life from around the country. Their service to America is what they have in common, and it is 1 of the 3 pillars I alluded to above. This commonality (the service to country) is reflected in my designs on each hat.

The company right now is a western-style snapback hat company. We offer unique designs geared towards those who live and love the country lifestyle. We hope our customers wear our hats with pride and with the same confidence and grit that built the American West. We are most proud of the community that this company has brought together, so far, and we hope to continue to build this community in the days and years to come!

  • Each hat is $32.99
