Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Brenner.
Hi Cindy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in New Jersey and, like many, tried cannabis in college. I really enjoyed the feeling but did not enjoy the paranoia I would experience about getting caught. I continued to consume cannabis but never truly knew what I was smoking or how I would feel. Shortly after college, I received an offer from a marketing agency in San Diego. I was nervous about leaving my family and friends to move across the country, but it was also exciting and California was way ahead of New Jersey in terms of Cannabis legalization. Shortly after moving here the adult-use market launched and I began experimenting with strains, edibles, cartridges etc. I eventually got a job in a dispensary and saw many customers overwhelmed by the options available to them. When discussing this experience with my fiancée we got the idea to launch a cannabis consulting agency. We are still in pre-launch stage but The Cannacurator will operate as a personal budtender for consumers seeking curated cannabis experiences. We’ll offer a variety of services including personalized and event consulting. Our goal is to eliminate the stigma of recreational cannabis consumption and empower the consumer to make informed buying decisions at the dispensary.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Talking about cannabis did not come easy. For most of my life I was taught cannabis is bad, and it turns out that’s a tough mindset to shift. Until recently I felt like I had to hide my cannabis consumption, which often felt lonely and isolating. I was living in a state where it’s legal to purchase and consume cannabis and I was still having whispered conversations about my cannabis consumption with colleagues. I was tired of hiding my consumption and slowly began sharing more detail on how I incorporate cannabis into my daily routine. Not everyone was happy about that and I had to have some tough conversations with loved ones who were holding onto this outdated stigma on cannabis consumption. I definitely feel more confident in my own cannabis consumption and hope to empower others to feel the same.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Cannacurator?
The Cannacurator is a personal budtender for cannacurious consumers who want curated cannabis experiences. We specialize in individual consumption consultations as well as event consultations. Consumers like to do their research before making a buying decision, but cannabis is a unique industry as there are no real national brands yet, making it difficult for consumers to identify and educate themselves on the offerings most local to them. We spend time getting to know each consumer and what they want out of their cannabis experience then conduct the research to find the best products based on their individual interests. Our recommendations can then be purchased by the consumer at local, licensed retailers, taking the stress out of shopping. The Cannacurator does not sell or distribute cannabis. Consumers are responsible for following local legislation. For event consultations, we work directly with the host or event planner to seamlessly incorporate cannabis into any private parties. We can help identify a perfect strain pairing for a dinner party or a novelty cocktail to elevate any evening. We provide additional value by helping our customers find local deals to help them save money. We are community-focused and will be donating a portion of our profits to racial and social cannabis equity programs.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as living a happy fulfilled life. Finding something that brings me joy and financial stability would be a huge success in my opinion. I used to think I would have to stop smoking cannabis to focus on my career/future and I am so grateful that I do not have to make that sacrifice.
