Inspiring Conversations with Aleah Maas of Holistic Flow Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aleah Maas.

Hi Aleah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My path to becoming a therapist and starting Holistic Flow Therapy has been shaped by a lifelong interest in understanding people, healing, and relationships. I’ve always been fascinated by why we are the way we are, why we repeat certain patterns, how our bodies respond to stress, and how early experiences shape the way we connect with others. That curiosity led me to pursue my MSW, complete my LCSW, and immerse myself in trauma-informed care, EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and somatic-informed approaches.

Before opening my practice, I worked in high-intensity clinical settings that helped me build strong clinical skills and taught me what people need to truly heal. Those experiences eventually inspired me to create a therapy space that feels intentional, grounding, and deeply supportive. I wanted clients to feel heard, understood, and safe enough to explore the root of their pain rather than just learn temporary coping tools.

Starting Holistic Flow Therapy in San Diego was a leap, but one that has felt incredibly aligned. Today I specialize in helping adults navigate complex trauma, attachment wounds, anxiety, and relationship patterns by working with the mind, body, and nervous system together. Entrepreneurship has challenged me in meaningful ways, but it has also allowed me to build a practice that reflects my values and the kind of healing work I believe in. I’m grateful every day for the clients I get to walk alongside.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road definitely hasn’t always been smooth. Becoming a therapist prepares you clinically, but graduate school teaches almost nothing about running a business, marketing yourself, or building a brand. When I started Holistic Flow Therapy, I suddenly had to learn an entirely new skill set. I was not only the therapist, but also the website designer, bookkeeper, marketer, administrator, and everything in between. It was overwhelming at first to juggle so many roles while still trying to stay grounded and present for my clients.

There were moments when impostor syndrome crept in, especially around the business and marketing side of things. I had to learn how to put myself out there, trust my voice, and believe in the value of my work. Building a practice from the ground up requires patience, consistency, and a willingness to figure things out as you go.

But the challenges have also been incredibly rewarding. Each struggle taught me something important, whether it was how to set boundaries, how to build systems that support me, or how to run a business in a way that feels aligned with my values. Learning to wear many hats has ultimately helped me grow not only as an entrepreneur but also as a therapist.

As you know, we’re big fans of Holistic Flow Therapy. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Holistic Flow Therapy is a private practice I created to offer trauma-informed, depth-oriented therapy for adults who want more than surface-level coping tools. I specialize in complex trauma, attachment wounds, anxiety, and relationship challenges, and I’m known for integrating EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and somatic-informed approaches in a way that feels grounded, compassionate, and deeply relational. My work focuses on helping clients understand their patterns through a trauma-informed lens, regulate their nervous system, and build healthier relationships with themselves and the people they care about.

What sets my practice apart is the holistic approach I take. I do not view symptoms as random or as signs that something is wrong with a person. I help clients understand that their reactions are protective responses shaped by their past, and that healing happens when we work with both the mind and the body. My clients often tell me they appreciate feeling truly understood and supported, and that therapy with me feels slower, deeper, and more attuned than what they have experienced before.

Brand-wise, I am most proud that Holistic Flow Therapy reflects my values. The tone of my practice is calm, warm, and intentional, and I have built it to be a safe and grounding space for people to explore their inner world. I want readers to know that my services are meant for individuals who are ready to do meaningful, transformational work. Whether someone is struggling with old trauma, relationship patterns, anxiety, or feeling stuck in survival mode, my goal is to help them build self-trust, create more emotional balance, and develop a stronger sense of connection with themselves and others.

Holistic Flow Therapy currently offers weekly therapy sessions, and every treatment plan is collaborative and tailored to each person. I genuinely feel honored to support people through some of the most meaningful healing of their lives.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is creating a space where people feel safe, understood, and supported in a way they may have never experienced before. So many of the clients I work with grew up in environments where their emotions were dismissed, misunderstood, or unsafe to express. Being able to offer a relationship that feels steady, attuned, and grounding is something I value deeply.

I care most about helping people understand that their patterns make sense and that nothing about them is “wrong.” When someone begins to see their reactions through a trauma-informed lens, there is often a shift toward compassion, self-trust, and healing that can change the course of their life. That process is incredibly meaningful to me.

At the heart of my work is the belief that healing happens through connection — connection to ourselves, to our bodies, and to the people around us. Supporting someone in building that connection and watching them step into a more confident, calm, and authentic version of themselves is truly what drives me.
