Inspiring Conversations with Alex Crumes of Crumes Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Crumes

Alex, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started as an independent personal trainer a little over a year ago after graduating from Cal Poly SLO and moving to San Diego. I initially was planning on going into physical therapy out of undergrad, as I had my Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, but I wanted to pursue my passion of personal training before I went back to school. At first I started off small, training friends and anyone who needed help achieving a certain fitness goal, as I was just getting started with my personal training career. After some time, I realized that I really enjoyed helping people achieve their fitness goals and develop a healthy life style, and wanted to pursue personal training as a full time career. Over time I started acquiring more clients, growing my business, and feeling more confident in my training abilities. Now, a year later, I have the most clients I’ve ever had and am continuing to elevate and expand my business to this day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been smooth; it was often rocky in the beginning when I was figuring a lot of things out for my own business. For example, figuring out how I wanted to operate my business as far as sales, consultations, training sessions, intake paper work, etc. was something I had to figure out on my own, and eventually, I was able to fine tune those components so that everything ran smoothly. Finding a place to effectively train my clients was also a struggle too at first because not every gym in my area necessarily provided what I wanted to be available to my clients. While my path to success was a bumpy ride, I’ve been able to overcome obstacles through trial and error and by learning by doing, which was ironically my college slogan-“Learn By Doing.”

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Crumes Fitness?
My business’s name is Crumes Fitness and you should know that I specialize in body transformation through weight training. I have experience in building strength and muscle, fat loss, and sports performance and I use that experience and knowledge to offer a customized training experience for anyone who wants to reach a specific goal. There’s a lot of misinformation and misguidance in the fitness industry, so I’d say what sets me apart from other trainers is my ability to guide my clients through their own fitness journey based on evidence-based training styles and strategies. Additionally, I connect with my clients on an emotional level, so that they feel supported and have a sense of sustainability while reaching their goals. I am most proud of the results I’ve been able to give my clients, while also teaching them how to live a healthy and fit lifestyle. It is very fulfilling to see my clients progress as they continue to train with me. Those who train with me can expect to get an effective workout but also be informed and have fun while doing it.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned on this entrepreneurial journey is that patience is key. Early on, things did not always seem like they were going to work out the way I wanted them to in many aspects of my business, which led me to have moments of uncertainty. However, just like in anything you want to achieve in life, it takes time to get there, and as long as you do whatever needs to be done, it will eventually work out. This is something that helped me in those moments of uncertainty, and continues to help me, to feel optimistic and have faith that my business will thrive.
