Inspiring Conversations with Andrea McClew of Luv Her Lips/Armed Services YMCA San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea McClew.

Hi Andrea, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a 16 years Military Spouse and mom to two teenagers and I have lived in San Diego for seven years now. I have multiple businesses that I juggle because I wanted to expand my knowledge of different venues and really try and work for myself. I own a lipstick line called Luv Her Lips. I am a Loan Signing Agent and an actress. I also am a dual titleholder currently Mrs. United States Regency International and I’m Mrs. Black Global. I’m an advocate for military families through the nonprofit organization the Armed Services YMCA right here in San Diego. So to say I’m a little busy is an understatement. Lol. Having been through six deployments with my husband. I know the challenges that a lot of military spouses face. I used my pageant platform as an opportunity to discuss OUR stories with people who may not know the Military lifestyle. It was hard for me to keep a normal job because we moved around the country every three years. No one hardly would hire me because the minute I would say Military Spouse, the next question would be “how long will you be living here”.

So I had to find flexible self-employment jobs to help provide additional income for my family. That’s where becoming a loan signing agent worked for me. I came up with the idea for my lipline because I simply could not find shades for me so I developed a line of bright bold colors for women of all shades. It’s been successful since I launched last year and we will be adding to the collection this spring!!. As for acting…I just got a lucky break. It started with a one liner in a commercial and 20 commercials and two movies later…my acting career has just blossomed. I was very lucky to have a leading role in two independent films available now on Fox’s app TUBI. My story has so many directions to it, but they all lead to me just trying to be a good Military wife, mother, entrepreneur and role model. I hope that what I do and continue to do Inspires other moms and wives to go for their dreams. I’ve been on the couch folding laundry watching Grey’s anatomy just wondering is this it? Will I be folding laundry and on this couch for the rest of my life. I KNOW what that feels like and I decided to just go for my dreams. My journey just started two years ago and I have so much more I want to accomplish. If I can do it, so can other women out there.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been easy by far. I remember when my husband had two deployment rotations back to back 2018 and 2019. That’s two Christmas holidays, two birthday years, two Halloweens that we didn’t get to spend as a family together it was rough on me, my husband and kids. Now put normal life duties, picking up kids from school, fixing things around the house and taking care of kids with trying to run two businesses, go on auditions in LA almost every weekend and keeping up with volunteering and titleholder appearances all on your own. I was beyond tired and sometimes just wanted to quit life period. But I had to keep going not only for my kids but for my career and for my own mental state. To gain the type of success I wanted, I knew it required me to work harder and push through the difficult times. Deployments didn’t break me, they made me stronger. As a military spouse, we HAVE to survive the Deployments. We are not on the ships or the front lines but we mentally and physically still have to keep life going while our partners are away. You develop thick skin but it’s the hardships during those times that allow me to keep moving forward in life.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Luv Her Lips/Armed Services YMCA San Diego?
My lipstick line Luv Her Lips is available now online. We will be launching a new line of colors in the spring. You can order and check out the line at luvherlips.com. Each shades name represents a part of my life and I tell a story about that on my website. I’m a small business owner and working hard right now to get my line in some boutiques here in San Diego.

The Armed Services YMCA San Diego is a nonprofit organization that helps Military families in need. They have monthly food drives, holiday toy drives, summer camps and our new horses of the sun ranch where military families can ride horses and spend a family day on the ranch. All of this for little to no cost!!! This organization helped me and my family when we were in need. My kids were a part of the summer camp for five years until they aged out of the program. It’s been such an honor promoting this organization over the years as their spokesperson. For ways to donate, you can visit. ASYSD.ORG

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love San Diego. We have lived in 5 states and by far the city of San Diego is the best. We were supposed to only live here for three years but we have been lucky to stay!!. I love the vibe, the diversity of people. The beaches, I mean C’mon. You can’t beat the beautiful sunsets. The culture, the FOOD!!! Tacos el Gordo is my favorite place for tacos. A Sunday walk around La Jolla shores. The only bad thing to say about San Diego…nothing. Lol.
