Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Allen.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Greg Howard is the visionary and driving force behind our mission at One Family Athletics. With years of experience at the highest levels of professional sports and a history of working with world-renowned athletes, Greg brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to everything we do. Ultimately, though, his heart led him back to where it all begins—with the kids.
As a youth baseball coach in San Diego, I partnered with Greg to empower young athletes by helping them understand their value and self-worth. Together, we developed a character-building program that integrates seamlessly with athletic training. Our approach combines physical conditioning, skill development, and mental resilience to prepare young people not only for high-level competition but for life beyond sports.
Our goal is to help them see a bigger vision for themselves. We want them to grow into leaders—future CEOs, strong husbands and wives, dedicated mothers and fathers. We’re teaching them to view the world not as a barrier, but as a springboard for their potential. Through athletics, we’re shaping the next generation to thrive both on and off the field.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth ride. Like most startup founders can attest, the early stages come with their fair share of growing pains. As two athletes, we’ve always known how to perform with excellence on the field—but navigating the business side of things has been a whole new game and a real learning curve.
That said, we’re competitors at heart, and we embrace challenges. What’s helped tremendously is building a strong, young team that complements our skill sets and fills in the gaps where we needed support. Their energy and expertise have allowed us to move faster and more effectively.
Now, after three years, we’re proud to say we’ve kept our debt low and haven’t had to rely on outside investors. Every tough lesson along the way has put us in a strong position for success this year—and we’re just getting started.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about One Family Athletics?
One Family Athletics (OFA) is more than just a speed, agility, and endurance training program—we’re a movement dedicated to developing the whole athlete. We proudly serve athletes at every level, from youth and club teams to collegiate and professional ranks. Our training is rooted in innovation, with techniques that are purposefully designed to translate directly to game-day performance.
But what truly sets OFA apart is our mission beyond athletics. We’re deeply committed to building stronger communities through sports. At the heart of this mission is our character development program, EDGE—Empower, Develop, Grow, Excel. EDGE goes beyond physical training to address the emotional and mental aspects of an athlete’s journey. We equip athletes with essential life skills like positive self-talk, emotional regulation, and gratitude—tools that are often overlooked but absolutely critical to long-term success both on and off the field.
We’ve seen firsthand how many student-athletes struggle—not because of a lack of talent, but due to a lack of leadership, mentorship, and emotional support. OFA exists to fill that gap. We provide the structure, guidance, and encouragement that athletes need to thrive as people first and players second.
Additionally, we’ve extended our reach to include parents through our “Parent Huddle-Up” program. Sports can either be a powerful tool for family bonding or a source of stress and division. We help families realign, fostering stronger connections through shared values, communication, and understanding. Our goal is to shift the narrative—from performance pressure and conditional love to one of support, growth, and unity.
At OFA, we believe that athletics is just the beginning. We’re shaping leaders, building character, and helping entire families grow stronger—one athlete at a time.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The best part about San Diego has to be the weather and the incredible landscape. There aren’t many places in the world where you can surf in the morning and go snowboarding in the afternoon—it’s pretty special. My two favorite places of solitude are sitting on the beach, just watching the waves roll in, and running to the top of a local mountain where I can get above it all. There are even a few spots in San Diego where you can take in both the ocean and the mountains at the same time. And honestly, there’s never a bad time of year to enjoy either.
The flip side of living in such an amazing city is the cost of housing. It’s become really challenging to afford a home in the same city I grew up in, and that’s tough. San Diego will always be home, but owning a piece of it has become a lot harder for many of us. However, we keep pushing forward because this is where our heart is, this is where our mission takes shape, and this is where our children will continue to build the community that we love so much.
