Inspiring Conversations with Charlie Green of Charlie’s Beauty Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlie Green.

Hi Charlie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a San Diego native having grown up in Spring Valley. Three weeks after graduation from Mount Miguel High School I was off to boot camp. I served in the United States Navy for 21 years. While in the military I made sure I pursued my education, earning my Bachelor of Science in Organization Management from the University of La Verne. Shortly after I enrolled in the MBA program at Trident University. My original concentration was General management, but halfway through the program, I realized that it was not for me. I had been working as makeup artist on the side while still in the military since 2013 and have always been intrigued by the beauty industry. So common sense told me to switch my concentration to entrepreneurship. With school finally completed I started to focus more on my makeup doing photoshoots, wedding, and event makeup. In July 2021 I retired from the military and being the “professional student” that I am, back to school I went. In August I enrolled in the Luxury Esthetician program at the Bellus Academy in El Cajon, CA. Shortly after I became a licensed Esthetician. Having been in the military for 21 years, I knew that I didn’t want to work for anyone else. So now I am a solo esthetician and owner of Charlie’s Beauty Bar!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
To clarify nothing about running a business by yourself is easy, but for the most part due to being in the military and now a Veteran it has been pretty smooth. By this I mean due to GI Bill benefits I did not have to take any school loans for my education, and because I am retired and receive a pension I do not have to work while trying to get my business off the ground. However, I did have some struggles trying to balance my military career and run a business at the same time. You want your business to come first, but Uncle Sam doesn’t agree with that.

As you know, we’re big fans of Charlie’s Beauty Bar. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Charlie’s Beauty Bar is my baby. Like a true Entrepreneur, from the vision to the painting I did it all by myself! Charlie’s Beauty Bar is a solo suite or studio where I perform all services. I am a licensed esthetician, certified makeup artist, and certified makeup artist. I am most known for my makeup services, being that was my first love. However, I offer Omber Powder Brows, Lip Blush, permanent makeup saline removal, waxing, relaxing facials, chemical peels, lash extensions, both brow and lash tint, and lamination. I know in this industry it is better to have a niche, but I like to think of myself as a jack of all trades.

“A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one”

What are your plans for the future?
I am always planning for the future. There are a lot service members getting out of the military and pursuing careers in the beauty industry. I would love to have a bigger studio where I can provide space for other artists. Like I mentioned before I am a “professional student”, I am now working towards my Bachelor of Nursing. It is the first step to me getting my master of Nursing to become a Nurse Practitioner so Charlie’s Beauty Bar can offer Botox and Fillers. I have a long road ahead, but much shorter than my last 21-year journey!
