Hi Cortney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
A Golden State Beauty began in May 2023, born from my vision to create more than just a salon—a true sanctuary for women seeking both beauty and peace. I wanted to offer a space where self-care extended beyond the surface, combining top-tier hair and scalp care with the calming, restorative energy of Reiki. My Zen Scalp Treatments have become a signature experience, blending scalp scrubs, conditioning, massage, aromatherapy, and energy healing into a rejuvenating 60- or 90-minute session that invites deep relaxation.
Energy healing is the heart of my business, and each appointment is tailored not only to enhance beauty but also to uplift spirits. Today, A Golden State Beauty has grown into a beloved haven for my community, where my clients find more than just hair and scalp care—they find a place to recharge and reconnect with themselves. Seeing the transformation in their energy and confidence is the most rewarding part of my journey so far.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My biggest struggle has been balancing building and running a new business while also being a present and involved parent to my two daughters, aged 5 and 2. I’m grateful my girls will grow up watching their mom build a business she is proud of but it comes at the cost of not being with them every second like we’d been accustomed to. It’s made me treasure our down time and think more about how I plan my days. The saying “the days are long but the years are short” feels very fitting for my current chapter of life.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about A Golden State Beauty?
I told you a bit about my services already. All of them are performed in my private studio in South Murrieta. But, I also handmake a small line of all natural, Reiki infused body care products. I offer things like Magnesium Oil Spray, Caffeine Infused Castor Oil, Rose Toner, etc. at markets across Southern California. This is another way for me to spread the healing energy of Reiki while also providing my community with a chemical free body care option.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Just start. Give yourself a budget and a short term plan and get to work .Thinking much more about it will hold you back from all the discoveries that are made when you’re on the journey. I didn’t know I was going to create product line when I started A Golden State Beauty but now I can’t imagine not doing it. My business evolves daily and I love having the creative ability to tweak things as I feel necessary.
