Inspiring Conversations with Danielle Parker, PsyD

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Parker, PsyD.

Hi Dr. Parker, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I knew I wanted to become a Child Psychologist when I was 16-years-old, and I started my Doctorate degree when I was 20. I have now been a licensed Child Psychologist for the past 3 years, and after providing psychological testing and therapy to children and teens through a clinic for several years, I decided to start my own private practice. With the help of friends and family, I started my practice in 2019, and in 2020, I was able to move into my own suite and am now seeing clients full-time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is it ever? There were definitely speed bumps throughout my graduate career. And even, after I graduated, I did not feel respected or valued at the company I was working for. My father continually encouraged me to start my own practice, but I thought that was way out of my league. I tried being an independent contractor for another group practice, but I was again discouraged by my lack of autonomy. Once I realized that starting my own practice was a possibility, I struggled to complete all the correct paperwork and find the right location. I still struggle with the business side at times, but it has been a much smoother road overall after this experience.

As you know, we’re big fans of Danielle Parker, PsyD. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist, and I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and families. Another area of expertise is my work with children with neurodevelopmental disorders, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. I provide talk, play, and art therapy, and I even have a therapy dog for an assistant!

Any big plans?
I hope to continue to run a successful private practice and help children and families thrive. Someday, I would like to open a clinic for individuals on the Autism Spectrum to help support them in improving social and adaptive functioning skills, so that they can lead more independent and enriched lives.
