Inspiring Conversations with David Fletes

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Fletes.

Hi David, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Since I was a little boy, I would dress up as a soldier. I always wanted to become a Marine when I grew up. When I was in high school, I even joined the ROTC program. As soon as I graduated, I enlisted in the Marines and joined the infantry as a Mortarman, where I did one tour overseas. I can honestly say that I proudly served my country. Joining the Marines was the best thing that I’ve could have done for myself. It taught me ethics, morals, and discipline that I’ll forever have and apply to everything I do.

Son of a single mother, I grew up seeing my mother struggle as a renter. She always worked so hard to accomplish the American dream of being a homeowner. When she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, that dream became unachievable. My mother/best friend passed away without accomplishing her dream. The desire to continue to serve my community and help those that wanted to own a home has always been my number one priority. That’s the reason why I became a Real Estate agent.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I began my career, I believed that it would be a smooth road. However, I was very mistaken. I started back in 2007 when the housing market was going through one of the worst financial crisis of our time. People weren’t trusting of real estate agents, and that was an obstacle that I had to overcome. I also had to start off by working with short sales and REOs compared to a normal sale.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from other realtors is the passion and commitment that I give to my clients. The person who inspired me to became a real estate agent was my mother. That is why 80% of my clients are first-time homebuyers. People know me as someone who always gets the mission accomplished, and I work on negotiating the best deal for my clients.

I’m available for my clients 24/7, and I help them with writing their contracts, going over disclosures, home inspections, and appraisal reports. This empowers my clients to feel like they are making the right decision for their future. I’m incredibly proud of having served my country, and I have great admiration for my fellow soldiers. This is why I work so hard to make sure that everyone who has served is able to own a house in the country they protected. My business is a 100% referral-based business, and I believe that the work ethic and professionalism that I provide to my clients is what has allowed me to be a top producing agent.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see big things in San Diego’s real estate future! I think the market is going to continue to grow exponentially. We have several military bases, big tech companies, pharmaceutical companies, and a growing population. I think that in 10 years, we will actually start to run out of space to build more homes, and that will definitely have an impact on home prices and equity. However, San Diego will continue to be a highly desirable area due to our climate, cultural diversity, and high-paying jobs!
