Inspiring Conversations with DC Williams of The Gas Station

Today we’d like to introduce you to DC Williams.

Hi DC, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Derek Williams but I go by DC. Growing up I always loved music and always had an ear for it. If you know me then you know my platform was no surprise to many. Being born and raised in San Diego, playing sports. I made lots of different friends and connections. I love my city dearly, My idea for the show was to help support and push the San Diego sound and the creative artist that reside in it. My goal is to be the bridge that people need to become successful in their journey, where they can show the world their talent and also network through other avenues within the music. I am connected with tons of artists, labels, producers, engineers and more. I was able to rent out a studio space from one of my good friends at Visionary Studios who also helped me get connected with one of the best camera men in the city. From there I had my logo created. If you look closely, it’s all in the details. That might have been the hardest part.
Along with deciding my show name “The Gas Station”. The way I started the show was definitely a process but a fun one. I am blessed to have the success I am having now with the show. I got to where I am today by staying very consistent and always showing love and networking. The artist enjoy what I do and the platform it comes with.
They are all eager to sit down and show their talent and be a part of something super dope for the San Diego music scene.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
More than anything it has been a pretty smooth road. Nothing really apron how its a turning out. To me the only struggle l’ve faced so far was starting it up and shooting the first few episodes, But with all the support Ive been getting from well known names and artist around the city, California, and more all it took for me was to reach out to some artist. Now I am receiving submissions almost every other day from different artist all over the nation.

We’ve been impressed with The Gas Station, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Gas Station is not a podcast, it is a platform for LIVE performances. I get the chance to help push the sound of all artist in San Diego and the rest of the west coast. I give artist the opportunity to show their talent and skills musically. With that comes a lot of opportunity to connect and network with other artist, producers, engineers, labels, and more. What sets us apart from others is that I am one of the only few platforms that strictly specializes in live performances in San Diego. The diversity and networking that comes with it is a plus for everyone. Brand wise I am most proud of how well the platform is performing and all the great feedback I have been receiving from people all over, means a lot to me. I love being the bridge to help connect all the creatives and giving them opportunities to network and further excel at their craft. At The Gas Station we offer live performances, whether that be a promo run for an upcoming song, a freestyle, or even a song that you have already released that you’d like more people to hear.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always that funny, likeable guy who could get along with just about anyone. I started playing football at five and stuck with it all the way through college, which really taught me dedication and hard work. Even though I got into a little trouble here and there, I stayed respectful, caring, and focused. Sports and working out were a big part of my life, but music has always been my true passion if you know me, you know music and I are inseparable. I also loved working on cars as a hobby, just getting my hands dirty and learning. Deep down, I always knew I wanted to be my own boss one day and build something of my own as an entrepreneur.
