Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin McLaten.
Erin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been a licensed esthetician in San Diego, California since 2001. After graduating from beauty school and earning my license through the California State Board of Cosmetology, I co-founded and operated Urban Skin Care, where I spent 20 years building a loyal clientele and growing a business rooted in results-driven skincare.
From the very beginning, becoming an esthetician was more than just a career choice for me — it’s my passion. I’ve always been committed to learning, evolving, and truly mastering my craft. Over the years, I’ve pursued advanced education, refined my techniques, and stayed current with the ever-changing skincare industry, all with the goal of providing thoughtful, effective treatments and helping my clients feel confident in their skin.
Now married and a mother of three, I’ve stepped away from working full-time to focus on family while continuing to see a select clientele on a part-time basis. I currently maintain a private office in Mission Hills. Staying connected to my roots and my passion, I continue to do what I love — offering personalized skincare backed by over two decades of experience, care, and intention.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall, it has been a smooth and rewarding one. Like many small businesses, I faced challenges during the recession and the pandemic, but both became valuable learning experiences. Those moments pushed me to pivot, adapt, and grow in new ways, ultimately strengthening my business, my skill set, and my passion for esthetics.

My business is centered on personalized, results-driven skincare with a focus on long-term skin health. I treat every client individually, tailoring treatments and home-care guidance to their unique skin, lifestyle, and goals. I offer a variety of services including facials, dermaplaning, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, microneedling, and other advanced skincare treatments.
What sets me apart is experience and intention. With over 20 years in the industry, I focus on what truly works — not trends or quick fixes. I’m known for an honest, conservative approach and for building long-term relationships based on trust and consistency.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the loyalty of my clients and my ability to evolve through industry changes while staying true to my values. I work with a select clientele out of my Mission Hills office, offering skincare rooted in integrity, experience, and genuine passion.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My success comes from being hard-working and fully dedicated to each client, ensuring personalized care and real results every time.
