Inspiring Conversations with Erin Murphy of Murphy Method Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Murphy.

Hi Erin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in San Diego, but like many with big dreams and a penchant for comedies, I made my way to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment. For 15 years, I worked in commercial, television, and film casting, helping shape projects and build relationships across the industry. It was an exciting, fast-paced world that sharpened my ability to network, negotiate, and understand people’s needs on a deeper, creative level.

When the pandemic hit, it reshaped my priorities. Although I loved my time in Los Angeles, I found myself drawn back to San Diego, wanting to be closer to family and contribute to my community in a more direct way. During this transition, I discovered my passion for home organization. I’ve always believed that a home should be more than just beautiful—it should function seamlessly and bring a sense of peace. That’s why I founded Murphy Method Co., a professional organizing business focused on creating spaces that feel effortless and stress-free. Through this work, I saw firsthand how transforming a home’s organization could completely change the way people live in it.

As I worked with clients, I realized that organizing was only part of the puzzle—many people needed guidance in buying, selling, and renovating homes to create the space they truly envisioned. That’s what led me to real estate. Now, as a licensed agent with Keller Williams San Diego Metro, I combine my expertise in home organization with my real estate knowledge to offer a holistic approach to home buying, selling, and design. My goal is to help people not just find a house, but create a home that works for them in every way.

It’s been a journey full of unexpected twists, but each step has led me to a career that is both practical and deeply personal. Whether I’m helping someone prepare their home for sale, find their next dream home, or create a space that feels effortless to live in, I love knowing that my work makes a lasting impact on people’s daily lives.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey has been anything but smooth, but every challenge has helped shape my path. Transitioning from entertainment to home organization and real estate was a major shift, and it came with its own learning curves. In the early days of starting Murphy Method Co., I had to build a client base from scratch, refine my approach to organizing, and prove my value in an industry filled with different philosophies and methods.

Getting into real estate presented a whole new set of obstacles—navigating contracts, market trends, and the emotional side of buying and selling homes. Real estate is deeply personal, and I quickly learned that my job isn’t just about transactions—it’s about guiding people through life-changing decisions. Balancing both organizing and real estate, while ensuring my clients receive the best possible service, has been a challenge but also incredibly rewarding.

One of the biggest challenges I’ve had to overcome is getting comfortable talking about myself and recognizing my own worth. Pricing my services has been an ongoing struggle because I truly wish I could afford to do this work for free and help everyone. However, I’ve learned that valuing my expertise and time allows me to serve my clients better and sustain a business that makes a lasting impact.

Through it all, the most important lesson I’ve learned is resilience. Every roadblock has been an opportunity to grow, adapt, and refine my approach. Looking back, I wouldn’t trade the tough moments, because they’ve led me to a career that is both meaningful and fulfilling.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Murphy Method Co.?
At Murphy Method Co., I specialize in professional home organizing that is tailored to real life. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions, nor do I expect clients to adhere to rigid organizing methods that don’t match their lifestyle. Instead, I create systems that are intuitive, sustainable, and practical—helping people reclaim their spaces in a way that feels natural to them.

Beyond organizing, my work in real estate allows me to help clients on a larger scale, whether they’re buying, selling, or transforming their homes. By combining organization with real estate expertise, I offer a truly holistic approach to homeownership—helping people not just move into a house but create a home that truly works for them.

What sets me apart is my ability to blend function with beauty. I believe a home should be effortless to live in, not just aesthetically pleasing. My background in casting and entertainment also gives me a unique perspective—it has helped me develop strong communication skills, establish clear expectations with clients, and truly understand their needs. This allows me to create solutions that fit them perfectly, ensuring their spaces and homes function in a way that enhances their daily lives.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust I’ve built with my clients. Whether organizing or helping with real estate, my goal is always to create an experience that is seamless, stress-free, and genuinely helpful. At the heart of everything I do is the belief that home should be a place of ease, not overwhelm, and I love helping people achieve that in whatever way I can.

How do you define success?
Success means knowing that I’ve helped someone feel more at peace in their home, that I’ve taken the stress out of a move, or that I’ve given someone the tools to maintain a space that truly works for them. It’s about the relationships I build, the trust I earn, and the confidence my clients feel in the spaces we create together.

On a personal level, success is also about balance—being able to do work I love while still having time to enjoy life, spend time with family, and stay true to my values. If I can look back and see that I’ve made a positive difference in my clients’ lives while still maintaining a sense of fulfillment and joy in my own, that’s success to me.
