Inspiring Conversations with Jasmine Williams of SUNNY&TED

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Williams.

Hi Jasmine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! My name is Jasmine, I’m the Founder and Creative Visionary for SUNNY&TED.

I was born in San Diego to a Navy family and I spent my childhood traveling around the
United States with my mom, dad, and two siblings. For me, making memories during the holidays or making “regular days” special has always been
a big deal. I love having my family settled in one place together, cooking, decorating, and creating memories that can travel with me forever.

I’ve always had a passion for people; before becoming a full-time business owner and work-from-home mom, I received my B.A. in Sociology and worked in Social Services. Today, my passion has translated into a home decor line meant to increase diversity in the home goods industry and start a conversation.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have seen so many ups and downs since launching SUNNY&TED, but instead of stopping, I use each ‘failure’ as an opportunity to learn, put measures in place that will prevent that event from happening again, course correct, and keep going. One of my biggest struggles has been not setting clear and detailed expectations for how I expect a project to be completed before the project starts. This kind of mistake can cost time and money. The learning lesson for me is to identify exactly what I want done before I even reach out to the people I am working with. Visualizing the product in completion is huge in being satisfied with the outcome- this can be applied to life too.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I was inspired to launch SUNNY&TED to diversify the home goods industry because we deserve to see Black and Brown people mirrored in the products we use around our homes and when making memories with our families. The mission of Sunny and Ted is to drive meaningful change in our community and to elevate the vibes at home. As a Black woman and a mother to two Black children, I recognize the importance of having Black people positively represented in the books we read, the television shows we watch, and the home goods we use in our daily lives. Through the Sunny and Ted product line, I am inspiring meaningful change in the images portrayed in Black communities, the way we feel about ourselves, and the way we talk about ourselves. SUNNY&TED is known for our OG product, The Cocoa Santa Mug, which was launched in 2020. Up until now, we have focused on Christmas and Holiday home goods, but 2023 brings our first Spring/Summer collection featuring mermaids in beautiful shades of brown. The Merfolk Collection is a capsule collection of mugs, cups, and plates that can be used year-round to diversify any home goods collection.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
As entrepreneurs, we are constantly learning as we go; if you let fear of failure paralyze you, you will never know what could have been. Take the risk.
