Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Glenn.
Hi Jenny, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am originally from Michigan and grew up dancing all my life competitively. After college, my husband and I moved to San Diego for a job opportunity he had. I always dreamed of owning a dance studio and following in my studio owner’s footsteps, but after moving to San Diego, that dream was placed on the back burner. I taught at multiple dance studios, but that dream always lingered in the back of my head. My husband and I decided it was time to take a leap of faith and open a studio here.
Throughout the many challenges of opening a business, we prevailed and opened in May of 2010. Our philosophy is to have a San Diego dance studio with a Mid-Western feeling vibe. We pride ourselves on knowing every dancer and try our best to make every dancer feel like a star! We now have a 7-year-old daughter who loves dancing which makes this business even more rewarding. In the past year, due to the pandemic, our business has been forced to adapt and make changes, but that warm and welcoming feeling is still our top priority! My favorite age to teach is 3-5 years old. They ignite my passion as an educator and inspire me to continue growing and learning.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh gosh! Owning a business is never a smooth road! I have learned to have thick skin and not get my emotions involved with struggles, but as a female business owner, that is difficult! We all know this past year was the biggest struggle. We moved out an entire business to zoom, then outdoors, then indoors with masks… it is forever changing, but we are resilient and so are our students!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a dance studio in Poway offering dance classes for ages 2 and up. We offer all styles of dance, but our Tiny Tots program for ages 3-5 is where we have seen the most growth over the years. We have a competitive team who became national champions this Summer in Las Vegas at one of the largest national dance competitions.
I want prospective students to know that we cater to all levels. We have a place and a class for every child wanting to dance, and we sincerely want to get to know them!
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Michigan and am a middle child. My family was middle class, and we were taught from a young age to work hard for your success. My parents divorced when I was in high school, and my dance studio became my happy place. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have been married for 15 years. I have always had a passion for dance, but I was not always the strongest dancer. My passion outweighed my talent, so I had to work extra hard.
