Inspiring Conversations with Jessica Chranowski of Pure Life Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Chranowski.

Jessica Chranowski

Hi Jessica, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 1999, I was 19 years old and attending Mesa College while figuring out what I wanted to do with my career. I was working part-time at a law firm, and after taking Business Law, I decided that I wanted to become an attorney. I realized I wanted a job that would help me get through law school. I figured that having a massage therapy practice would be a great way to work shorter hours and give me time for my studies. I enrolled in a massage therapy program and became certified within a few short months.

My holistic health mentor persuaded me to establish a business, and I founded Pure Life Therapy on August 19, 1999. I was still at the law firm and taking classes at Mesa towards my Associates degree while building a massage therapy practice. In June of 2000, I received a random phone call asking if I was available to go to Irvine Meadows to give a massage to the lead singer of a band. I was available, booked the appointment, then went next door to ask my neighbors who the person was (this was before Google – ha!) Their jaws dropped when I told them it was Roger Waters from Pink Floyd! Throughout the years, I became the trusted person to call when a tour was in town and needed a massage therapist for the stars or crew.

Around 2007, I started working on local production teams as a side hustle. We are the liaisons at the venue to help the tour get everything they need to get the band on stage and off to the next city. This was also a wonderful way to network with tours and offer massage therapy the next time they came through town.

In 2013, I was invited to tour with Pink as Production Assistant and IT services. It was an amazing adventure through the US, Canada, and Europe. Summer of 2015, I toured the US and Canada with One Direction as their Logistics Coordinator. I was with Nickelback summer of 2023 as their Backstage Coordinator; I was in charge of health and wellness, catering, dressing rooms, plus many more duties.

Backtrack a bit to 2020, when the world shut down. The music industry and massage therapy was completely halted. I reflected on the situation and realized this wasn’t the first tragedy to happen to my business; I have always pivoted and survived. April of 2020, I enrolled at UCSD to learn to teach stress management from a neuroscience perspective. The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher training program was an incredible qualification to add to my repertoire.

I am now creating programs that combine holistic health with stress management and neuroscience to help you figure out how you uniquely react and respond to stress. We then explore healthy ways that fit with your lifestyle to make long-lasting changes so that you can thrive in your various pursuits. Programs and mentoring are available online.

The massage therapy practice is located in Pacific Beach; we offer Healing Touch, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Deep Tissue, Sports, and Prenatal Massage Therapy.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an entrepreneur has definitely not been a smooth road. Owning a business is full of ups and downs. We experience slow seasons, where we barely book any clients or work. We have busy seasons, where we need to hire someone to help us with the workload. We might schedule jobs or clients that turn into HUGE headaches.

However, when I see a client experience relief from an issue that has been plaguing them for years or when I am invited to shoot a T-shirt cannon into an arena filled with 20,000 screaming fans – this is what makes the journey worth it!

I have really learned to go with the flow, to learn new skills to advance my business, and to trust that everything will work out in the end.
