Inspiring Conversations with John Bermudez of Endurance Fitness Performance

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Bermudez

Hi John, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started really getting into fitness in my early 30s after the scale was creeping up somewhere that wasn’t favorable for me. As I got into it, it became a great outlet for managing the stress of a highly demanding job in marketing. Along the way, I decided to up the ante and run a marathon as a way to honor a good friend of mine that lost her battle to cancer. I thought it was going to be a one and done sort of deal, but as the weeks wore on post-marathon, something drew me to wanting to tackle the challenge again. Along the way, I kept stacking other races and distances while balancing work, travel, family and the like. Work became more and more unbearable until I finally decided to quit. In my mid thirties, I decided to pivot a hard left and dive into the world of health and fitness as a trainer. It seemed so crazy to make that change after spending the past fifteen years in marketing in various industries. With my wife’s blessings, I dove in and haven’t looked back since! Fast forward to 2020 when the world was shut down and gyms were closed, I made the bold decision to start my own coaching and training business. Again, with my wife’s blessing, I dove in and haven’t looked back since. I’m grateful for where this path has taken me. It definitely hasn’t been easy, but being able to bring so much knowledge of business from years in marketing, understanding what the typical office worker goes through and knowing how to make fitness a bigger part of one’s life has helped me bring a perspective other fit pros may not fully understand. It’s been a fun, rewarding trip!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an entrepreneur is never a smooth road! I am the CEE – Chief Executive of Everything! Marketing, Sales, Coaching, Technology, Operations – it’s a one man job! But in being an endurance athlete, I know one thing – it’s a marathon, not a sprint! I gotta focus on where I’m at in the moment and trust that the tough spots will pass. Where there’s an uphill, there’s a downhill. Juggling programming for my athletes, creating social media content, weekly newsletters, the actual meet ups with my athletes, it can be overwhelming some days. Plus, throw in spending family time and friend time! I’m grateful to have my support system that is understanding. It’s a grind and hustle some days. But it’s so rewarding seeing the progress my athletes make whether training for a race or life! It makes it all worth it!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I predominantly work with endurance athletes – runners of all distances, budding triathletes, obstacle course racers, you name it! At the base of it all, there’s a foundation of fitness that needs to be laid out before tackling these other challenges. So I still have a handful of what I call “For Life Athletes” – those that might not want to run a marathon, but are instead are training for the marathon that is life! I love coaching and competing in marathons and tris, but at the end of the day, it’s all bonus points from being healthy for life! We get to do this!

Being my own “brand”, what I am proud of most is keeping it real with my athletes and on social media. It’s not always hammer, hammer, hammer with me. I go through my ups and downs with finding motivation to train, making my own blunders on race day, enjoying a good burger and slice here and there, along with putting in the work and being on top of things most days. I want my athletes to know that things are always perfect and that life happens. And that’s okay! It’s how we deal with the ups and downs and still are able to doing incredible things that make it all worth it!

I’d want the readers to know that while I’m based in socal, you don’t have to be here to train with me! I still work with a handful of athletes that are spread out all over the US! Gotta love technology to be able to connect with folks outside of the city! People also think that they need to “get in shape” before they work with a trainer. And that’s not the case at all! I’ll take you as you are right now and get you to where you want to be! You wouldn’t bake a cake and then take it to a baker to decorate!

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I really believe that there’s an inner athlete inside all of us! There’s a lot of untapped energy and talent that lies within all of us! My goal is to get you to your health & fitness goals and to tap into that confidence to push further than you thought was possible!

I’d love to talk with folks about their goals and my style of coaching before we get move forward to working together. My skillset is there. But, coaching is also about connecting with one another; a meshing of personalities. If we’re working together for months on end, it’s gotta click for both of us. I want this to be a meaningful relationship for you!
