Inspiring Conversations with Keri Kemper of Saughter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keri Kemper .

Hi Keri, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
We are two sisters that both had our careers impacted by Covid-19. During the pandemic we were able to spend time together for the first time in years and grew closer than we’ve ever been.

On an adventure through our home state of New Mexico we picked up custom friendship bracelets to solidify our new experiences and relationship. When we got home Keri realized that she had lost hers and was devastated. She scoured the Internet to see if she could replace it and came across “permanent jewelry”. While Keri tried to figure out where the next trip would be to find a place to get a permenant bracelet, Sydney, an engineer, jumped in to figure out how we could do it ourselves- and Saughter was born! Two Daughters- creating custom Saughter’d jewelry for the ultimate client experiences.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been a bit bumpy: navigating a new business, working with family, finding our nichè and clientele all take time and patience, but we wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else. We have been fortunate to have tons of support from friends and female entrepreneurs along the way that have lended a hand, ear or advice. We hope to be that type of resource for future female start ups as well.

We’ve been impressed with Slaughter , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We specialize in permanent jewelry, creating custom experiences for our clients across Southern California. We are so proud of the joy and emotion our pieces bring our clients- best friends, mothers and daughter, sisters just like us. We recently launched our e-commerce site due to high demand of client requests through our Instagram and have pivoted to creating custom clasp pieces as well.

We are also launching our private party program in September. Offering on location jewelry experiences for the most special times- weddings, bachelorettes, reunions and birthdays!

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
We were born out of the Covid-19 crisis so it had been very impactful to us and our business. Things that heavily impacted us were the forced time to slow down and see what’s really important, like family. That experiences should be cherished and we can help our clients with keepsakes from some of the most important times in their lives and that everything is temporary- bad times, success, money so celebrate each moment and know that something new is always right around the corner.
