Inspiring Conversations with Kim Ball of Deliberate Movement

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Ball

Hi Kim, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been a fitness professional and a coach for over 20 years. And I’ve been an athlete my whole life!

Beginning with 15 years of high-level gymnastics got me hooked on movement and physical challenge. And since I loved learning about the human body, I worked up to 2 Masters Degrees in Exercise Physiology and Nutritional Sciences from SDSU.

I began working as a Personal Trainer in Long Beach back in 2005. In 2006, Deliberate Movement was born. I added a local outdoor boot camp program – The Badass Hour – to my repertoire in 2010. And then came the 2nd iteration of the BAH for the past 5 years in North County San Diego. And I’ve also been a head coach at Carlsbad CrossFit for the past 8 years.

I do have an invaluable amount and variety of coaching experience. But I’m also a mom. So I’ve been through the journey of learning how to balance mom life. It took me a loooong time to figure out how to consistently pencil my wellbeing and movement into my own busy calendar.

Now in my mid-40s, with my kids becoming more self sufficient, I’m acutely aware of how important it is to move past self care and also seek out passion, challenge, and adventure.

So these days, I’m building fitness solutions for busy moms over 40. My newest program, Morsels of Movement, is an online group coaching program for busy, adventurous moms. And I’m very excited to continue building and supporting a community of moms who want to prepare for all the adventures yet to come!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an entrepreneur is never a smooth road. It requires out-of-the-box thinking, consistent effort, facing fears, and picking yourself up when ideas flop. I’ve had many “failures” with programs I’ve offered and marketing tactics I’ve attempted… but each unsuccessful attempt provides new lessons for moving forward.
The biggest challenge has been rebuilding my business with kids in tow. Our family moved from Long Beach down to North County SD right after my youngest son was born. When the kids were tiny, I worked early mornings and evenings. Now that they’re in elementary and middle school, I build my schedule around their drop offs, pickups, and afterschool activities.
It can be chaotic, but I’m thankful for our amazing village that helps make everything possible.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Deliberate Movement?
Through Deliberate Movement, I work with moms over 40 who are looking to keep themselves healthy and prepped for all the adventures they have ahead of them.

Moms are very busy with so many responsibilities, so it’s my goal to help the busy mom prioritize herself. To remember that “Mom” is not her only title. That she has desires and dreams and curiosities all for herself.

But if she wants to seek out the dreams and possibilities, her body has to be ready to take on the challenge.

That’s where I come in.

Even with the busiest of schedules, I can help her keep her body capable, functional, and strong.

I can help her prioritize herself, maintain a youthful body and mind, get curious about new opportunities, AND be prepared for all the adventures she seeks out in life.

I am a mom over 40 myself – so I am walking the talk. I know what it’s like to wear the shoes of a busy mom. And with my 20 years of coaching experience, as well as my ongoing education, I have the background to be able to get results for those who seek out my guidance.

I’m very proud of my newest program – Morsels of Movement. It’s an online group coaching program for busy, adventurous moms.

It takes place on Zoom at 9am PST on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Classes involve LIVE coaching and guidance, not just a workout program you have to figure out on your own.

With online coaching, your commute is eliminated. With 35 minute classes, your time commitment is minimal. With recorded workouts… it’s OK if a last minute meeting or a sick kid means you miss the live class. Convenient, simple, and effective!

And for those who can’t make our class times, or simply want a more affordable investment, I also offer a self paced version of my program. Morsels of Movement BASIC. Members receive 4 new follow-along workouts every month (to repeat weekly), as well as access to the support of a private Facebook group. It’s comprehensive and effective, but without the real time coaching from me.

I offer personal training packages as well. Both virtually and in person. For those who need some additional one-on-one guidance and support.
