Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Beseke, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC

Hi Kristin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been working in the field of medical aesthetics since 2019, and I’m proud to be a trusted provider in Escondido, CA. My career has been dedicated to helping my clients achieve their wellness and beauty goals through personalized, evidence-based treatments.

I started my healthcare journey as an emergency department nurse, and eventually was promoted to nurse educator. I spent 11 years in the emergency department before earning my Master of Science in Nursing degree and becoming a board-certified family nurse practitioner. My background in family medicine and dermatology has given me a well-rounded understanding of both the structure and health of skin, as well as the broader medical considerations that influence patient care. This foundation allows me to approach aesthetics with a focus on safety, natural results, and creating personalized treatment plans that consider the unique needs of each client. My experience also helps me confidently address potential concerns and provide holistic care that enhances not just appearance, but overall well-being.

I have dreamed of owning my own business for many years, and in September of 2024, I partnered with Portrait to make that dream a reality by opening Lean & Lovely, Nursing Inc. in Escondido, located inside Salon Republic at North County Mall.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I decided to become a solo entrepreneur, I quickly realized that my journey would be filled with challenges that would require both resilience and adaptability—even with a strong partner by my side.

One of the first challenges I faced was ensuring my business met all legal and regulatory requirements. Thankfully, my partnership with Portrait made this process much smoother. They handled the complex legal and compliance issues, including securing the necessary licenses and ensuring my practice aligned with California’s regulations. This support allowed me to focus on my clients and the vision for my business, knowing that it was built on a solid foundation.

With the legalities in place, I turned my attention to building a client base. Despite my credentials and experience, I was entering a very competitive market. To stand out, I emphasized my unique blend of medical expertise and personalized care. I worked with Portrait to refine my marketing strategy, sharing my story and showcasing my knowledge on social media. I also tapped into my existing network of colleagues and former patients who followed me on social media—many of whom became my first clients!

Running a business, however, still came with its challenges. While I was a skilled injector and provider, the business side—operations and financial management—was new territory for me. Determined to succeed, I enrolled in business workshops, joined networking groups, and sought mentorship from other business and medspa owners. Portrait also provided valuable guidance and resources, helping me streamline operations and develop confidence in managing my growing practice.

Through persistence, adaptability, and the help of my trusted partner, Portrait, I’ve been able to overcome these challenges. Today, while Lean & Lovely, Nursing Inc. is still new and growing, it stands as a testament to my expertise, hard work, and dedication to providing clients with safe, personalized care. I hope my journey serves as an inspiration to other nurses and nurse practitioners who dream of building their own practices.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lean & Lovely, Nursing Inc.?
Lean & Lovely, Nursing Inc. is my solo aesthetic practice, where I focus on providing high-quality, personalized care in medical aesthetics. As a board certified family nurse practitioner, I specialize in a wide range of services, including advanced skincare treatments like chemical peels and microneedling, non-surgical cosmetic procedures and injectables such as Botox®, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, Daxxify®, dermal fillers, Sculptra®, and Kybella® as well as customized weight loss programs. I also carry medical-grade skincare products to help my patients maintain their results and enhance their overall skin health.

What truly sets my practice apart is the time and attention I dedicate to each patient. Previously working as an employee of a busy medspa, I often felt rushed, unable to give patients the thorough care and education they deserved. Now, as a solo practitioner, I intentionally schedule extra time for each appointment, allowing me to understand my patients’ goals, educate them on their options, and deliver results that look natural and enhance their unique beauty. My priority is not just performing treatments but creating an experience where patients feel heard, valued, and confident in their aesthetic journey.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see the aesthetic industry continuing to grow, with advancements in technology, new treatment options, and an increasing focus on natural, long-term results. I expect to see more personalized treatments and preventative approaches, where treatments are tailored to each individual’s unique anatomy and aging process rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

For my practice, I plan to continue growing while maintaining the high level of patient care that sets me apart. I’d love to expand my offerings with new, evidence-based treatments that align with my philosophy of enhancing natural beauty. Education is also a big priority for me– I see myself continually learning and elevating my practice and even possibly mentoring others in the field. No matter how much my practice evolves, my goal will always be to provide a welcoming, patient-centered experience where people feel confident and well cared for.
