Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Pflueger.
Kyle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My path into a technology career started nearly 15 years ago when I began working for a local real estate website and technology company. I began on the front lines in customer support and account management and, through the years and the different technology companies, worked my way into a role as a QA Engineer and, eventually, a Product Manager. These experiences taught me a great deal about not only the technologies that are required for building websites and other web-based applications but also the good and bad of the processes that help create them.
In terms of my own company, Mithril Media, I began building websites well over a decade ago when some friends and I decided we wanted to have a place to post music reviews about our favorite albums, songs, concerts, etc. I built a website from the ground up that was my first taste of what it takes to actually put a site together.
Over the next few years, I continued to experiment with different website projects, learning what I could along the way and taking a few online courses to help fill in some of the gaps. Over time, I got good enough at the basics that I began to realize it was an opportunity to do something more.
I began picking up a client or two here or there while continuing to work full-time in my various roles as a QA Engineer and Product Manager. Eventually, the client list grew large enough that I decided it was time for me to actually make an official business out of it.
I officially founded Mithril Media LLC in June of 2019, and I haven’t looked back since. It is now my full-time job to design, develop, manage, and maintain websites for our wide range of clients. We have recently expanded our offerings as well by bringing in a design partner that has years of experience in helping clients really hone their brand. As we head into the future, we are excited to bring a full suite of digital services to the table for our clients to choose from.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey to this point has been filled with some ups and downs. In addition to being a business owner, I have also been a full-time employee of various other companies while continually working to be the best husband and father of three that I can be. Finding enough time to fill all three of those roles has certainly been a challenge at times, but I am forever grateful to have a supportive wife that has been my partner at every step along the way.
In terms of Mithril Media itself, our growth to this point has been almost entirely organic. We don’t run ad campaigns or try to solicit cold leads. Nearly every one of our 50+ clients has been referred to us through other clients. We genuinely value the relationships that we build with every one of our clients, and we work hard to make sure it always feels like a partnership.
We’ve been impressed with Mithril Media, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mithril Media is a full-service digital agency that specializes in website design, development, and management. We are based out of San Diego, CA, and have worked with businesses of all different shapes and sizes. Our number 1 priority to is help business owners create a definitive web presence while letting them stay focused on the day-to-day of their own business.
Our suite of product offerings is centered around our website services. From brand inception to scalability and growth, we partner with businesses and brands that are looking to define themselves in the digital space. While we are experienced in many of the technologies that power the digital world today, the primary asset that sets us apart from others is our customer-first approach. With a background in product management and front-line customer support, we have a natural empathy for the client and strive to meet them where they are in order to help them get where the want to go. We have worked with a wide variety of clients from all different industries, and we regularly adapt our suite of services to fill the client’s need.
Many of our clients have been with us for several years and have trusted us to help them grow their reach and build a digital presence that represents their business well. Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Empathy, curiosity, and trust. Empathy means being able to understand the client’s need, identify the problems that need solving, and translating that into real world. Our curiosity drives us to be inquisitive not only in our interactions with clients but also as we adapt to new technologies and identify ways that those can make an impact for our clients. And none of this happens without trust. A client’s willingness to let us into the inner workings of their business is not a responsibility we take lightly. We work diligently to maintain a reputation of trust and accountability, providing our clients with a peace of mind that the problems they need solved are never out of reach.
