Hi Lunide, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Born in poverty in the slums of Haiti. Migrated to NYC. As soon as I got to this great land of opportunity, I was sexually abused at the age of ten by my step-dad — with bribes such as if you want toys, you will let me fondle you. I despised being out of control, living in a cheap furnished 2-bedroom apartment on Park Place in Brooklyn with seven other people, infested with cockroaches. I still remember my grandpa had a bunch of old books — which I would sneak to read at night in an effort to teach myself English — fast. In my mind, if I eliminate the language barrier, I can achieve the American dream. But my reality was looking so bleak. These early experiences create a subconscious foundation of beliefs and habits that no matter how hard I worked or tried, I would have succeeded but not the higher levels that I knew were possible.
In 2011, while pursuing my Ph.D. at The Marshall Goldsmith School of Management in San Diego — I could not afford to pay for housing and pay for my classes at the same time. So I was couch surfing, sleeping in my car for a year, and in the school nurse’s office after hours, where I part-time worked as an assistant.
One day, I had an assignment from one class to read the book: “What Got You Here, Won’t Get You There” by Marshall Goldsmith, the man himself. The book outlines one major point: one small flaw – a behavior you barely even recognize – is the only thing keeping you from where you want to be. It may be that the very characteristic you believe got you where you are, like the drive to win at all costs, is what is holding you back. This blew my mind and I started a quest to uncover more about how our subconscious habits are influencing our lives and performance and how to rewire them.
I came to realize that we often do well in spite of certain habits rather than because of them – and we might need a what ‘to stop’ list rather than a what ‘to-do list. This had me thinking of what habits, beliefs, and behaviors I needed to stop so I can go from achieving 40%-60% of my potential to extraordinary at 100% performance.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for others who wants to start their own business or venture into a side hustle – do it! You will not regret it.
