I started Sparkly Maid San Diego Cleaning Services with a very simple belief: cleaning should be done with care, pride, and intention, not rushed or treated as a transaction. Before launching the company, I saw firsthand how inconsistent the cleaning industry could be. Homes were being cleaned quickly, but not thoughtfully, and clients were often left feeling disappointed or unheard.
From the beginning, I was intentional about building a company that was Latina-owned, Latina-led, and focused on empowering Latina professionals through meaningful employment. Many of the women on our team are supporting families, building independence, and growing into leadership roles, and that responsibility is something I take seriously.
My goal was to create an award-winning cleaning company in San Diego that delivers premium cleaning services without cutting corners. That meant setting higher standards and being extremely selective about who represents our brand. Today, fewer than 1 in every 100 applicants we screen is hired. We look for people who genuinely care about the work, the home they’re in, and the trust our clients place in us.
As the company grew, we stayed disciplined about quality. We invested in training, detailed checklists, and clear communication so every client knows exactly what to expect. We don’t aim to be the biggest cleaning company in San Diego. We aim to be the most trusted.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most meaningful businesses, Sparkly Maid San Diego Cleaning Services was built through trial, discipline, and a lot of hard lessons.
One of the biggest challenges early on was setting standards in an industry that often prioritizes speed over quality. Offering premium cleaning services meant saying no to shortcuts, even when it would have been easier or more profitable in the short term. Training, retraining, and holding the line on expectations took time and patience.
Another challenge was hiring. Because we are intentional about being an award-winning, Latina-owned and Latina-led company, we are extremely selective about who joins our team. Fewer than 1 in every 100 applicants we screen is hired, which means growth is slower, but the quality and trust we’ve built are far more sustainable.
There were also moments of uncertainty, especially in the early stages, where I had to balance caring deeply for our clients and team while making tough operational decisions. Leading with heart while running a disciplined business is not always easy, but it’s necessary.
What carried us through those challenges was our purpose. We clean because we care, and that mindset guided every decision, even when the road felt difficult. Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that standards matter more than speed, and values matter more than growth. It’s tempting, especially early on, to expand quickly or compromise just to keep up with demand, but doing so always comes at a cost.
Building an award-winning cleaning company taught me that consistency, trust, and care are not accidental. They come from being disciplined in hiring, training, and leadership, even when it’s uncomfortable. Choosing to hire fewer people, train more intentionally, and hold firm expectations has been one of the hardest but most rewarding decisions I’ve made.
I’ve also learned that when you lead with purpose, everything else follows. Being a Latina-owned and Latina-led business means carrying responsibility not just to clients, but to the women on our team. When people feel respected, supported, and held to high standards, they rise to meet them.
At the end of the day, the lesson is simple but powerful: if you build with integrity and care, the growth you achieve will be sustainable. We clean because we care, and that mindset has shaped every part of my journey.
