Inspiring Conversations with Meagan Nicholson of Solura Psychotherapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagan Nicholson.

Meagan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been passionate about helping people feel seen, supported, and empowered in their lives. I graduated from Alliant International University in 2019 with my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy and began my career working for non-profit organizations and in clinical settings supporting youth and families. Those early years were incredibly formative for me. I had the privilege of walking alongside young people navigating trauma, identity, and resilience, and it gave me a deep appreciation for the power of connection and healing in community settings.

As I grew in my work, I began to envision creating a space that combined my clinical expertise with a holistic, empowering approach to therapy. That vision led me to open Solura Psychotherapy, where I specialize in women’s issues, trauma, and supporting children through an attachment and parts-based lens. Solura is rooted in the belief that healing comes not only from addressing pain, but also from reconnecting with our innate strength, wisdom, and ability to thrive.
Today, I feel grateful to have built a practice that reflects my values and allows me to support clients in meaningful, transformative ways. Every step-whether in nonprofit work, private practice, or now growing Solura—has shaped the therapist I am today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It certainly has not always been a smooth road, and I think that is true for most people who choose a path of meaning and growth. In my early thirties, I have experienced big transitions and the closing of certain chapters in my personal life. I’ve also happily welcomed the beginning of new and exciting chapters in the story that I am continuing to write. Those moments naturally came with challenges, but I see them as opportunities for transformation. They pushed me to look inward, trust myself more deeply, and step into the kind of life and career I truly wanted to build.

Starting a private practice also comes with its own hurdles. Learning the business side of therapy, building a brand, and balancing the role of both clinician and entrepreneur has at times felt overwhelming. Each challenge, however, has taught me valuable lessons about resilience, patience, and the importance of staying aligned with my values.

What has carried me through is remembering that healing is never linear, whether in my own life or in the lives of the people I work with. The struggles have shaped me into a more grounded and empathetic therapist. They have also inspired me to create Solura Psychotherapy as a space where others can find strength in the middle of their own life transitions.

As you know, we’re big fans of Solura Psychotherapy . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Solura Psychotherapy was created with the vision of illuminating the path forward for those navigating life’s challenges. The name itself comes from sol, which represents the sun and light, and aura, which reflects a protective and safe space. Together, Solura embodies the warmth, clarity, and healing energy I hope each client experiences in our work together.

I specialize in supporting women through life transitions such as motherhood, dating, healing from intimate partner violence, and strengthening self-esteem and empowerment. I also work with children and families, helping them process trauma and anxiety through an attachment and parts based approach.

What sets Solura apart is the belief that therapy is more than addressing symptoms. It is about creating space for people to rediscover their strength, connect with their inner wisdom, and move forward with clarity and confidence.
Brand wise, I am most proud that Solura reflects the values I live by: warmth, empowerment, authenticity, and light. My goal is that when someone steps into a session with me, they feel both deeply supported and gently guided toward their own power.

What I want readers to know is that therapy is not just about healing the past. It is also about embracing who you are becoming. At Solura, I walk alongside my clients to help illuminate their path forward so they can move through life with greater resilience, clarity, and hope.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Mentorship and support have been absolutely vital in my journey. Early on, I was fortunate to have Dr. Nicole Sabatini-Gutierrez as a mentor. Her guidance and wisdom helped me navigate the challenges of starting out in the field and inspired me to approach therapy with both confidence and compassion. The faculty at Alliant International University also played a pivotal role, shaping my clinical skills and encouraging me to trust my intuition and unique perspective as a therapist.
Beyond formal mentorship, my colleagues and friends in the field have been an incredible source of support. They offer advice, share experiences, and remind me that even in challenging moments, growth is possible. And I have to give credit to my parents, who as business owners themselves, taught me the value of perseverance, vision, and integrity. These are the lessons that I carry with me every day in running Solura Psychotherapy.

For anyone looking for a mentor or trying to grow their professional network, I have a few suggestions. Be intentional about connecting with people whose work and values resonate with you, and don’t be afraid to reach out with curiosity and respect. Nurture those relationships over time. Offer support, stay engaged, and celebrate others’ success. There is enough room at the table for everyone. Seek out professional communities, workshops, or conferences, and remain open to learning from everyone you meet.

The guidance, encouragement, and wisdom I’ve received from mentors, colleagues, and family have shaped not only my career but also the way I show up for my clients. Their support has illuminated my path forward and helped me create Solura Psychotherapy as a space where others can find clarity, strength, and hope in their own journey.
