Hi Michael, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
AFFINITINYC LLC was founded August 2011 with an intention to bring a breath of fresh air to the event band industry. Hailing from Boston and Chicago Karen J & Chandlar met at Ashford & Simpson’s Sugar Bar on the Upper Westside of Manhattan. The two decided to join forces as a power couple in love and business forming the premiere Entertainment company servicing the Globe having performed for the King and Queen of Sweden as they celebrated the nuptials of the Princess, provided entertainment to celebrate Oprah Winfrey’s 60th birthday in Santa Barbara. Since then, the company has been thriving expanding personnel allowing the company to provide services for multiple clients and continue to create and curate Epic, memorable celebrations!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. In the early days of inception, we faced the challenge of finding ambitious team members who could see the vision of an independently owned African American company being successful. From there we faced being new with no track record and having to convince clients that we could be trusted for bringing quality entertainment. The proof has always been in the pudding and our claim to fame has been our quality and high level of performance.

AffinitiNYC is a Top Tier Special Events Band, specializing in Curated Playlists designed to bring into fruition the Clients Vision for their Special Event. Our expertise is Versatile, HIGH ENERGY, EXTRA CLASSY, Pleasingly Edgy, HEARTFELT, musical performance. Our LOVE of music and our desire to spread LOVE through the vehicle of music is our passion and Mission. The AffinitiNYC Administration Team meets with clients personally taking them effortlessly through their musical journey exploding into Fun Filled, Memorable Events to last a Lifetime. Our Goal is to alleviate the stress factor and increase the Fun factor from the moment we meet with clients.
Tell us about AffinitiNYC LLC and how it got started.
Our company was founded 2011. We started this company to offer what we consider to be a breath of fresh air to the Special Events Band industry.
QUALITY – ENERGY – COMFORTABILITY – For us, the most important result of an evening spent with a Special Events Band is, did the client and their guests have FUN? Guests can only have FUN in our opinion if we are a FUN bunch. Once we have met with clients to determine the musical tastes, any formalities, our LOVE for performing quality music kicks in and drives the night through its peaks and valleys.
Picking the perfect band is key! The tone is set by the band once the doors are opened and guests begin entering. You know that you’ve picked a great band when it becomes nearly impossible to seat your guests for any formalities…lol
Clients are different, so there is no specific time necessarily. The key is to make sure that the band does have enough time to prepare for your event. In order to get the full experience of a catered sound for your event it’s best to have song requests, formalities, etc. submitted by at minimum 30 – 60 days from the event.
A night with AffinitiNYC is catered to the Client and their Guests down to every detail. Clients are able to have direct access to the AffinitiNYC Administration Team to map out every aspect of the evening with regards to performance, flow, and songs. The band leaders are pleasant and very approachable. Our goal is to alleviate the stress factor and increase the Fun factor from the moment we meet with clients.
Vocally and musically the band covers a wide variety of music. For an evening, we like to ease guests in and build the night as we go. Our focus with song selection is to please the client.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The biggest most heartfelt lesson from the Crisis was that our safety and mental well-being are far more important than striving for success. The Blessing has been to rise from the ashes of Covid and still be chosen to provide our brand of entertainment for clients.
