Inspiring Conversations with Miguel Luna of CaliFino Tequila

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miguel Luna.

Hi Miguel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
What started out as a misunderstanding has now turned into a brand. It took some time navigating an unknown territory to realize we had stumbled on something truly unique. We come from a soccer background, not your traditional spirits industry background. Tequila has been in my family for many years but never even thought about turning this passion project into a business. A misunderstanding between my long-time family friend, Phil Salvagio, and myself lead to this opportunity. Due to the passion for our tequila, family ties, hard work, and winning mentality, we started to grow this project surrounded by family and now our CaliFino family. We have a big vision for CaliFino and we are just getting started.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is never a smooth road per se. Each day we face challenges but part of the fun is learning and working through it to get better. We have been very hands-on from day one. Everything from designing the bottle and labels to getting the project off the ground has been an adventure. Never a bad day or failure, just a new experience and opportunity to improve.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The idea that CaliFino was started as a zealous dream from a couple of soccer guys and a family recipe, we believe sets our brand apart. Using 100% Ultra-Premium Blue Weber Agave and aging each expression at its max rather than the minimum helps too.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Love and be passionate about what you do. Enjoy going to work every day or you’re in the wrong field. Surround yourself with the right team – you need a good locker room to make the journey enjoyable. Hard work and fun should go hand in hand. Mistakes will be made but learn from them and never stop pushing forward.
