Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Mazza.
Hi Nick, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Baltimore and raised by my mom, who got her real estate license after her divorce at 25 to support three kids. I pretty much grew up in the real estate world. She took me along everywhere, making the business feel like second nature to me.
At one point, my entire family—both grandparents, my parents (mom and stepdad), my brother, and I had our real estate licenses. We owned rental properties and flipped houses together. I helped out by fixing them up, maintaining the landscaping, watering the grass, etc.
I got my license in 2005 and sold real estate for a few years until the 2008 recession hit, which slowed things down a lot. During that time, my side gig in hospitality and entertainment really took off, so I focused on running events, throwing parties, and DJing.
After that, I was recruited into the tech industry, where I spent 12 years while still managing my event company on the side. In 2017, my tech job gave me the opportunity to start investing in real estate and doing hard money loans for a few friends. I eventually teamed up with some partners to flip houses. In 2021, I bought an Airbnb with my first real estate partner, started a house-flipping business with my brothers on the East Coast (while living in San Diego), and got my real estate license again in California to handle my own deals. Now, I’m back to selling real estate full-time in San Diego, flipping houses with my new business partners in North County. I’ve come full circle and plan to spend the rest of my career in real estate because it’s what I love most.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The real estate game is definitely a wild ride. I’ve stumbled quite a bit, faced the 2008 recession, and navigated some tough years. The market and real estate laws are ever changing and I’ve worked with various partners who each have their own approach to business. Luckily, I’ve had some good experiences with my partners overall.
As you know, we’re big fans of Compass = Realtor . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I help people reach their version of the American Dream by investing in real estate. Whether it’s primary residences, rental properties, or vacation homes, San Diego has it all, and most of these options are solid investments with great potential for appreciation. I’m part of a small team called The Harth Team, based in Leucadia. While we cover all of San Diego, we primarily focus on North County, especially the coastal areas. Our main goal is to assist clients by leveraging our expertise and connections with real estate professionals and community networks to help them find their ideal homes in fantastic neighborhoods. We’ve built a strong reputation, close deals efficiently, and people enjoy working with us.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’ve been fortunate to connect with the right people, where I can contribute to their success while also benefiting from their strengths, allowing us to grow together both personally and professionally.
