Inspiring Conversations with Paula Sturm of Radically Nourished

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paula Sturm.

Hi Paula, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My path to becoming a dietitian started when I embarked on my fitness journey. As I continued my workout routine I started gradually learning about nutrition and how incredibly important it is. Eventually it became something I wanted to turn into a career, so I went back to college and pursed a degree in nutrition and became a Registered Dietitian. In the process of earning my RD credentials at the Mayo Clinic I realized prevention was the key to long term health.

Seeing so many chronically sick people at the hospital made me feel helpless and wondering if I could only have helped them before they got here, they would have never had to step foot in this place. That’s what made me continue my education in Integrative and Functional Nutrition, where nutrition can play such a pivotal role in preventing and reversing diseases.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There have been many learning opportunities on my path to building my practice. I had a lot of education in health and nutrition but I had zero experience or education in building a business! Most of my opportunities have come in learning how to market and build my practice, it’s an ongoing journey, I would say.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Radically Nourished?
I specialize in helping women through the health challenges autoimmune conditions can create. So often, these women feel hopeless and left behind in the traditional medical setting where they are told they will just have to “live with it” or prescribed harsh medications that create more harm and side effects than the autoimmune condition itself. I love knowing how to support the body’s natural ability to find balance by addressing root causes of conditions. Harmonizing the gut, balancing hormones, re-nourishing the body, supporting detox pathways, as well as addressing sleep, stress, and genomics make all the difference in the world how someone feels physically, mentally, and spiritually.

As much as I love getting to the bottom of what make someone tick physically, I also realize how important mindset and energy play a role in health and behavior change. I am also a master level trained NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming) practitioner. Understanding the language of the body and what symptoms are trying to communicate can be powerful transformation tools. Additionally, we often know what we need to do but struggle actually doing it. That’s where using NLP to unravel what keeps our mind stuck in unhealthy habits comes into play. Having those a-ha moments finally puts a wrench in the cycle of bad habits we find ourselves going back to so often.

I love taking people on their journey to finding ultimate health.

What matters most to you? Why?
Meeting people where they are at and personalizing their path to wellness. We all have busy lives and there is no “good” time to start making the changes needed to turn our health around. I like my clients to be part of the process in managing their health. Only they know what they go through all day and so I want them to be able to feel like they can be successful in the changes I suggest. When people feel like they are part of the process they are more likely to stick with the new habits. My goal is for people to generate a lifestyle not be on a diet or plan for 8 weeks then revert to old habits. I remove diet labels and gimmicks and give people realistic strategies to live a healthy life.
