Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Lopez-Perez.
Hi Peter, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Peter Lopez-Perez, a licensed psychotherapist. I’ve worked in private, public and non-profit sectors across San Diego County.
I founded Remedy Rework to improve the relationship between employee and employer. Toxic work environments are often a result of a power differential that exists within the social dynamic of employee and employer. The philosophy of Remedy Rework is making the “invisible visible”, which allows the inclusion of all sides of the conversation.
As the social contract between employee and employer continues to challenge the status quo, I asked myself “is Human Resources the only place that deals with employee situations?” Most don’t know, Human Resources exists to protect the company from litigation, while it’s also present for employee support, it ultimately leans on protecting the vested interest of the business. Reaching out to Human Resources is a double-edged sword, requesting support from an internal disciplinary entity can evoke feelings of distrust across the team.
Managers, supervisors and employees are often left with basic support to confront scenarios in the workplace. This can create a “I do it this way, because it’s worked in the past” mentality which can be harmful when dealing with new employees.
Remedy Rework strives to bolster working relationship, attain more with less frustrations, build healthy habits for sustainability and experience consistent joy in the workplace.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve faced many challenges. I’ve met with companies that requested I “fix” their employee attitudes. Notably, implementing a “disciplinary training” in order to “whip the staff into shape”. Listening to employers describe their staff as inadequate illustrated the type of work culture that was vested in maintaining a separatist philosophy. Convincing employers of the significance of collaborative engagement in the workplace came with its notable challenges.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Remedy Rework?
