Hi Rachel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
The story of how Wick + Bloom Candle Co. came to be is a comical one. I have been with my fiancé for almost six years. I have watched him have various hobbies that he was always so passionate about. The most notable being surfing and working out. He had this undeniable fire for these two things that I so badly wanted for myself. Something that makes me want to get out of bed early in the morning. Something that could potentially merge into a career so that every day I could wake up knowing I would spending my day working on something I truly love and enjoy. That is when I found out about the carcinogenic chemicals in a lot of my own candles I had in my home. Even from some top brands in the US that I called my favorite.
I have always loved crafts and being hands-on. That is when I thought to myself “why can’t I make my own candles for my own home without all the extra gunk that isn’t good for our own bodies to breathe in”. After endless research and months of trial and error–I finally nailed it! I was so excited to have conquered the art of candle pouring and have found recipes that work for me–that doesn’t involve phthalates or parabens. I was beyond passionate about this creation that I knew I had to share it with others so they too could have a safer option for their home. That is when Wick + Bloom Candle Co. was born!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Wick + Bloom Candle Co. has been so fun to create! I have really enjoyed the creative side which involves the fragrance testing, logo and label brainstorming, content creation, and all the other things that bring out the creative in me! The most challenging aspect about starting a business from scratch is not having a business or finance background. Understanding the legalities involved in having your own business, the taxes, and the one million little things that you would never think come along with starting a business.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Wick + Bloom Candle Co.?
We hand pour all of our candles in small batches in a small studio that has two burners which means only two batches can be made at a time making it a true labor of love. We use 100% all-natural soy wax paired with fragrance oil that has essential oils blended in. We use a neutral amber glass jar so that it fits all home aesthetics. Our 8 oz candles burn for a minimum of 36 hours which can be prolonged even longer if caring for your candles and trimming your wicks.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
For me, it is really important to bring an honest product to the market and provide healthier solutions for our homes. I am passionate about limiting toxins in our homes to live a healthier and happier life!
