Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhyon Nop
Hi Rhyon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Can you believe I actually never thought I would ever become a Travel Advisor?
I do remember for a senior project in high school thinking into the future that I would like to have my own business one day. Not that I had any idea of what it would be or how I would achieve it. So after entering the workforce and finally being able to afford trips to places I never got to experience much growing up, it was the start of the travel bug that was itching to explore more.
The anchor of this passion really dropped when I set sail on my first cruise in 2016. I enjoyed it so much, another cruise was booked while on the way home after only disembarking the ship just hours before. So after years of being a workaholic in corporate life of the pharmacy world and squeezing in trips whenever I would finally use my PTO, I knew I needed to figure something out.
A change that would allow more opportunities.
A change that would allow more stability.
A change that would allow more flexibility.
I turned into that guy that would be researching or planning trips all the time. One problem though. Travel expenses can add up pretty quickly. It doesn’t help that I tend to like nice things too because I want to have those elevated experiences. If I was going to afford the lifestyle I wanted, I started wondering if I needed to get a part-time job or go back to school.
Then here comes 2020. The cruise and other trips that I had booked obviously had to be canceled. With the extra time, I really began digging into what I could do to supplement my lifestyle when things would normalize again. Something that I would enjoy and of course make a living off of it.
It finally hit me in 2022 after browsing online again one day bored on the couch that travel had the potential of being everything I was looking for with the entrepreneurial freedom. So I impulsively started going down a deep hole of researching everything that I could find when it came to business and travel.
I spent every day from that moment learning as much as I could. And just like that, Mister Tripster was born before the year’s end.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As much as I wish everything was smooth sailing, I definitely underestimated what comes along with starting a business and how many hats there are to wear. Being an employee is clearly different than being my own boss and having the responsibility of everything to think about.
At first, it would seem like not having much to invest into myself was the biggest struggle. While it can be a factor, what I really discovered is that it doesn’t determine if I’m going to be successful or not. The biggest lessons I learned throughout the whole process is that a lot of my struggles are due to not having the right mentality. Reshaping my mindset is what is going to help manifest the goals I’m aiming for.
There have been so many days where I just didn’t prioritize accordingly which led to me finding any excuse to not do something. This would lead to me being overwhelmed or feeling lost no matter how many times I asked questions or would refer to whatever resources I had. Then there’s of course the feelings of inadequacy or imposter syndrome and even the thoughts wondering if this was all a mistake.
It didn’t matter if someone said they thought I was doing okay or things were looking good. I was always obsessing about having everything as perfect as can be and knowing everything I can.
I realized I needed to give myself grace.
I realized learning is ongoing.
I realized that progress is better than perfection.
Even though these are all things I was told and taught multiple times, I clearly took it for granted when trying to apply it. While I still occasionally struggle with other aspects such as getting out of my comfort zone at times, I am learning to face these obstacles more directly instead of just avoiding them.
