Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Hill.
Hi Samantha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My interest in esthetics started at the start of Covid in 2019. I had really bad cystic acne and began to binge-watch skincare videos. I fell in love with the concept of skincare and enrolled in esthetics schools. After 9 months of studying advanced esthetics, I graduated and enrolled myself in medical assisting school. My goal was to work in a dermatology clinic to understand skin more than what I learned in esthetics school. After eventually landing a job in a dermatology clinic I quickly realized how a lot of the industry is not aimed towards people of color. As someone who is half black half Filipino, I think it’s important that we have people to teach us how to take care of our skin. I was able to cure my own skin from acne with my knowledge and was determined to help those around me that experienced the same. Soon after I left my job at the derm I decided to open up my own business. I took everything that I learned from esthetician school and the dermatology clinic and applied it to my own skincare and my business in order to give people the best results possible. I continued to expand my knowledge and became a multicultural skin specialist. I now happily own SkinGlori and am happy helping my clients understand more about their skin.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth route. I struggled a lot with financial setbacks. I also struggled with self-confidence in understanding such a complex subject… but I continued to study on my own time (while still attending community college)
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about SkinGlori?
SkinGlori provides esthetician services. I currently specialize in advance facial treatments. What sets me apart from other estheticians is my background in dermatology and my understanding of multicultural skin. I am proud that I have created a business that practices inclusivity. I want the readers to know that my missions is to help people understand their skin, feel confident in it, and appreciate their skin more since it is the biggest organ of the body. It protects us so we must protect our skin as well.
My business will be moving to Mission Valley starting March 1, 2023.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice would be to keep going and keep studying. BE A SPONGE, soak up as much information as you can, and continue to learn more.
