Inspiring Conversations with Scott Curry of Scott Curry Putting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Curry.

Hi Scott, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a kid growing up in San Diego, I never thought I would ever pick up a golf club. I was a competitive tennis player who dabbled in every sport as a child except for golf. It wasn’t until I was 18 years old that I got hooked by this amazing sport. I was obsessed, and went to the driving range five days a week and became a scratch golfer in a year!

After trying to play competitive golf, I realized pretty quickly that I was better at helping others reach their potential in the game.
I first became a Caddy at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort guiding people to shoot the lowest scores they had ever shot. I learned from all of that experience that as the world shifted to online instruction and social media that golfers were not getting better, and not learning how to assess their mistakes and make adjustments.
I soon realized I had a knack for helping golfers of all levels create individual systems to learn how to assess and improve their golf game at a rapid pace. I focus mainly on putting and chipping as it is very rewarding to help golfers be better immediately without making major changes in their game.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The struggle for me is getting past the social media world in which we live where many instructors try to add value by making the game harder than it is. Our job as instructors is to teach our students how to learn and be able to adjust on the go. My goal is to help my students learn and get to a point where they become their own instructor and don’t need lessons all the time. And although it seems like a bad business model, my satisfaction purely comes from my students making more putts and shooting lower scores. If that takes one lesson, so be it!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Scott Curry Putting?
I specialize in helping people be better golfers! I do this by creating unique systems for each individual that help them assess and learn and get better immediately.
I think what makes me different is the fact that I don’t tell my players they have to do certain things or do things a certain way. I simply make them shoot a lower score working on basic fundamentals and discussing and showing concepts that will lead them to make better decisions. I think I obtained that mentality from being a professional caddy and understanding human behavior. Golf is not just golf swing or mechanics, instruction needs to be more geared in a way of teaching students what to do in certain situations to allow their confidence to stay at a high level because golf is a game of confidence, and when we lack that we will struggle to commit to our shot.
