Inspiring Conversations with Shanelle Meyer of Realtor® at Compass

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanelle Meyer.

Shanelle Meyer

Hi Shanelle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It’s been almost a decade since I moved to San Diego, not realizing that this was where I would settle and start building my life. I was 22 years old when I landed here, and each year found myself a little bit more.

Now 31 years old, I can say that I know what my legacy will be; a woman who built community through every relationship and person she had the opportunity to connect with.

I was raised in Upstate NY. Once I graduated from St. Bonaventure University, my career path would lead me to work for one business owner after another; in Marketing, Public Relations, Home Remodeling, and ultimately Real Estate.

Learning how to build a business, processes, systems, and creating a brand were all instrumental takeaways from working directly with business owners. Though incredibly valuable, what I realized was that I was always building someone else’s legacy instead of my own.

The jump into Real Estate started with Marketing for Sotheby’s, then becoming an Executive Assistant for a top agent, and now a licensed Realtor with Compass in Downtown San Diego. When you start working for yourself, you realize it’s true what they say – you have to know your WHY.

My ‘why’ has developed from living in my beloved neighborhood of East Village for the last 5+ years. I see every day the juxtaposition of the expensive high-rises vs the unhoused on the sidewalks in front of them. I’ve become passionately involved with youth organizations that aim to break the cycle of homelessness, I sit on the board of the East Village Residents group, and have recently been elected the Co-Chair of the San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce Emerging Leaders Committee.

All of this ties together for me to accomplish one thing – improve the lives of others. Through Real Estate, I am able to donate a portion of every sale back to the community, I am able to educate POC how to create generational wealth, and I am able to create community within my neighborhood.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Struggles along the way – myself!

Dealing with imposter syndrome, holding myself accountable to consistency even without (immediate) results, and remaining positive when things fall through.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Realtor® at Compass?
I am passionate about improving the lives of others by delivering the very best experience when buying and selling real estate.

I help first-time buyers, I help buyers looking for their second home or vacation home. In short – I work with anyone looking to purchase a home, my service is to make sure they find the right home on the right terms for them.

I help sellers when they are ready to sell their largest asset – my service is to create certainty for them that they will get their home sold.

Though I am based in San Diego, I have referral connections all over the country that allow me to continue helping my friends and family no matter where they’re looking at buying or selling.

My business is based on being able to give back to the community. Every sale I do, I donate back to a charity of my clients choice, and if they do not have one, I donate to the Youth Assistance Coalition (an SD organization focused on eliminating the cycle of homelessness in youth).

My brand is being personable and making things fun and easy. My team and I have the ideology that we give the ‘Amazon’ experience. We’re quick, efficient, and you’re never left wondering what the next step is. When you work with me, you’re working with someone who cares about your goals and accomplishing them with you. ‘Your goals are my goals’ is my tagline, and I mean it.

My goal is to help 25 clients buy or sell in 2025!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Keep moving! I start every day with the same podcast that reminds me to ‘stand up, take a step, repeat!’.

As a business owner, it feels like every day you’re facing a new obstacle you sure as hell didn’t see coming. But seeing the beauty in a chance to learn, grow, and move through it is what gets me through. Sometimes I find myself letting the fear of the unknown keep me stuck, or wallowing when a deal falls through – and then I remember to ‘stand up, take a step, repeat!’, because there’s always a solution. When something goes wrong, that moment is already done, a thing of the past. We have the opportunity to change the future of that situation and become the hero for ourselves and our clients.
