Inspiring Conversations with Spencer Soto of Spencer Soto Realtor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Spencer Soto.

Hi Spencer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story so far has really been about turning disappointment—what I once thought was failure—into steppingstones for growth. I’ve come to realize that everything in life happens for you, not to you. That mindset has shaped not only my career in real estate, but also who I am as a person, husband, father, and man of faith.

I graduated from Cal State San Marcos with my degree in Business Administration, but the road there wasn’t straightforward. During my third year, I failed business calculus. That setback meant I wasn’t able to continue into the College of Business Administration with my peers. At the time, I was devastated. I remember feeling disheartened watching my friends move forward without me.

But that summer, instead of letting it stop me, I enrolled at Palomar College to retake calculus and a few other classes so I could reenter the program. In that window of time—what I thought was a delay in my plans—I decided to pursue something productive. I got my real estate license and began interning with Joe Gray. Looking back, what felt like a major failure actually became the pivot point that led me to discover my love for real estate.

Now, nearly nine years later, I’ve been fortunate to build a career full of highs and lows that taught me invaluable lessons. I experienced the surge of the COVID real estate boom, riding record-breaking years like so many agents did. And then, as interest rates rose and the market shifted, I found myself humbled and forced to adapt again. What I thought was disappointment became another opportunity to reset, to go back to the basics, and to rebuild my business from the ground up.

This shift coincided with one of the most personal and transformative seasons of my life: becoming a father. My wife and I welcomed our daughter, Charlotte, just as the market was tightening and uncertainty was everywhere. It was stressful—navigating higher rates, a slowing market, and the responsibility of providing for my growing family. But again, I leaned on my faith, my wife, and my family to push through. That season reminded me that my identity is not only as a successful realtor, but also as a family man and person of faith.

Through resilience and trust in the process, I’ve been able to rebuild stronger. Today, I’m tracking for $30 million in sales this year, and I couldn’t be more grateful. It’s proof to me that even in the valleys—when things feel like they’re falling apart—you’re actually being redirected toward something better.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. Market shifting and changing. Growing the family in a tough market. Understanding I am more than my career
