Inspiring Conversations with Stephanie Kwo Friedl of Get It Write College Advising

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Kwo Friedl.

Stephanie Kwo Friedl

Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
From Corporate Climber to College Whisperer – My Unexpected Journey Imagine trading fancy boardrooms for messy college essays – that’s my story! After a successful career in corporate communications then choosing to stay home with my young kids, I suddenly found myself a single mom of three (ages 13, 8, and 4!) needing to reinvent myself.

So, I started freelancing, using my writing and education background to tutor and empower young writers. Then, something magical happened. Students kept asking for college application help, particularly with essays. Here was a chance to combine my education, experience, and writing skills into a mission: helping students navigate the crazy world of college admissions with a little less stress and a whole lot more joy.

That’s how my business was born. Years of training, expertise-building, and launching hundreds of students onto amazing college journeys later, here I am – a college cheerleader, empowering students to find their perfect fit and rock the application process!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The Road Less Traveled (with a Few Potholes!) Let’s be honest: college admissions are a labyrinth! Ever-changing policies and endless options – it’s enough to make anyone’s head spin. And building a business? That’s a whole other adventure.

There were definitely potholes along the way. Juggling mom duties and making ends meet while building a business is no easy feat. Balancing motherhood with building a business was a constant hustle, figuring out online platforms, marketing strategies, and the ever-changing world of college admissions – all while wrestling with bedtime stories and packed lunches. But the rewards? Seeing students’ faces light up when they land their dream college acceptance and watching them soar – including my own three kids, now 27, 22, and 19 – that makes every challenge worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Get It Write College Advising?
Demystifying the Maze: My College Admissions Superpowers Think of me as your college admissions fairy godmother! My superpower? Transforming the overwhelming application process into a journey of discovery and self-awareness.

Here’s what sets me apart:

Matchmaker, not Rank Chaser: I prioritize finding the perfect fit for each student, not just chasing prestige. We explore their interests, strengths, and dreams to craft a college list that sparks genuine excitement.

The College Guru: I stay laser-focused on admissions trends, policies, and opportunities. Think of me as your personal college admissions encyclopedia!

Essay Whisperer: Crafting a powerful essay is key. I empower students to tap into their unique voices and tell stories that resonate with admissions officers.

Building a College-Ready Foundation: College prep starts way before senior year. We guide students throughout high school, helping them discover talents and explore passions. This fosters a strong foundation for a successful application and future success.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My Secret Weapon: Passion as Fuel My greatest strength? Absolute, genuine passion! I truly love helping students navigate this exciting (and sometimes stressful) chapter. It’s more than just a job; it’s a privilege to witness their resilience, intelligence, and dreams.

This passion spills over into everything I do, from staying current with trends to creating an anxiety-busting, joyful college application experience. My enthusiasm rubs off on students and families – it’s a win-win situation!

The positive word-of-mouth from happy graduates and families is a testament to the power of passion. It fuels my dedication and keeps me striving to make even more college journeys amazing.
