Inspiring Conversations with Vee Meadows of Autism Place Custom Tees and More

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vee Meadows

Hi Vee, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.

As a dedicated professional with over 17 years of service as a bus operator for San Diego’s Metropolitan Transit System (MTS). My journey to MTS began after losing my trucking business during the recession, seeking stability and a new direction in my career. In 2016, a chance conversation about autism with coworkers sparked a passion that would change the course of my life.

Inspired by the stories of children with autism, I came out of retirement as a musician, writing and producing the song “Born This Way” to raise awareness. My efforts culminated in a successful campaign, winning a contest that raised $50,000 for the Autism Society of America. This milestone solidified my commitment to advocacy, using my talents to spread awareness both locally in San Diego and nationally through performances.

Though my musical career paused during the pandemic, I continued to find innovative ways to raise awareness. One of my creative ventures includes attaching a mechanical running mannequin to my vehicle, dressed in various superhero costumes, attracting attention wherever I travel. This unique idea has gone viral multiple times, most recently during a trip to Las Vegas.

Currently, I operate a custom T-shirt print shop that supports my advocacy efforts. Proceeds from the shop help provide AngelSense tracking devices to families of children with special needs. These devices offer GPS tracking, assistive speakerphone capabilities, and proactive alerting, ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals.

In addition to my entrepreneurial efforts, I am developing a YouTube segment called “The Veeality Show.” The show will combine humor and social impact by featuring pranks involving my mannequin while promoting a message of anti-bullying with the slogan, “Be a Superhero, report bullying.”

With a goal to expand my business and eventually employ individuals with disabilities, I remain deeply committed to making a lasting impact in the special needs community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t been easy. I have put upwards of over $100,000 of my own money into spreading awareness and business investments. The tough part is not being able to give it 100%. As a driver I work 10 hours every day which can be tiring when also running a business. I pull it off by balancing the two.

As you know, we’re big fans of Autism Place Custom Tees and More. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Autism Place is a custom print shop. We can print on just about any substrate. That could be bags, shirts, mugs, tumblers and more. We are located in National City behind Burger King at Highland and 8th Street.

We print for a cause. Our goal is to supply families of children with special needs with AngelSense GPS tracking devices.

As the first on the Westcoast and pioneers of autism awareness through music, our autism awareness store and custom t-shirt print shop stands as a beacon of purpose. Having raised over $50,000 for autism organizations, we invite businesses & consumers to join us in making a difference. By choosing our facility for their custom company t-shirts, they actively contribute to our mission of providing monetary support to families affected by autism while fostering greater awareness in our collective journey toward understanding and inclusion.”

What are your plans for the future?
We have set a goal for 2025. That goal is to supply at least 25 families with AngelSense GPS tracking devices for their special needs child. We anticipate making a difference when it comes to children’s safety and bullying.

With the launch of “The Veeality Show”, and our focus on bullying, 2025 will be the year we encourage bystanders of bullying to “Be a Superhero, report bullying”.
