Inspiring Conversations with Veronica Martinez-Goodman of Helping Hands Wedding Teardown Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Martinez-Goodman.

Veronica Martinez-Goodman

Hi Veronica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The story behind my wedding and event business started back in December of 2022 when my husband, Chris, and I had our wedding. It was a beautiful day – but not everything went as planned!

We were extremely budget conscious and did everything ourselves (with the help of our friends & family of course)! When it came to the reception though, we knew we wanted to let loose and allow our family and guests to fully enjoy the night. Unfortunately, our venue required same-night clean up.

Not wanting to put the responsibility on our family and friends, we searched high and low for wedding teardown services in San Diego, but all we could find were cleaning services. This is not what we needed; what we needed were extra hands to help repack decorations, move them out of our venue into a truck, and back to our home less than 5 miles away.

We turned to moving companies, but this was an unusual request for them since it would be after hours. Desperate, we turned to Craigslist, where we found a pair who said they would help us for a reasonable price.

We were ecstatic to have it figured out but when the time came, the Craigslist movers were a no show. Luckily, we have the best friends and family who stepped up to help! While we are incredibly grateful for this, it is one of our biggest wedding regrets.

Now, with my business acumen and my husband’s transportation and logistics experience, we fill this gap for other San Diego couples! Our company provides wedding and event support services specializing in teardown and cleanup. Since our start in 2023 we’ve expanded services to include setup support, table bussing, day-of-coordination and more.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would say that it has been a pretty smooth road for us so far! I am actually a small business and marketing consultant by profession so I have a bit of an advantage compared to others. Starting a business has been a lifelong dream of mine. One of the biggest hurdles for me, as it is for many entrepreneurs, is getting out of my own way. For example, working through self-doubt and imposter syndrome can be challenging at times, but you just have to jump in. There will inevitably be ups and downs when running a business – times when you are feeling discouraged – but ultimately, if you stick with it and put in the work, you can overcome any challenge.

We’ve been impressed with Helping Hands Wedding Teardown Services, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our company was founded on the values of being affordable, honest and reliable, and specific to our customer’s needs. We are a family owned and operated business, not a staffing agency, which means everyone who works our events is vetted, trained, and dedicated to providing exceptional service.

Taking care of our event staff is very important to us. We offer as many perks as we can to our staff including paid lunches, bonuses, and more than minimum wage pay rates.

Community building and giving back are core parts of our business. We aim to foster collaboration within the local wedding and event industry, through highlighting other vendors on our website, social media, and supporting any other way we are able. We also hope to launch several exciting charitable and community-based initiatives in 2025, so stay tuned for those!

As a small business consultant and aspiring entrepreneur since childhood, I am most proud to have found a unique niche in a well established industry. There really isn’t another company doing exactly what we do. The feedback from customers and industry professionals has been incredible so far and tells me that we are onto something great!
